Alexis Scheer's Breaking the Story officially opens Off-Broadway at Second Stage Theater's Tony Kiser Theater June 4.

The world premiere production, which is directed by Jo Bonney, began performances May 16. The limited engagement marks Scheer's return to Second Stage, where her play Our Dear Dead Drug Lord premiered in 2019 in a co-production with WP Theater.

Breaking the Story centers on a foreign war correspondent named Marina. After returning from a particularly bloody conflict, she considers what a life of peace would look like, and what it would take to move forward from the trauma she has witnessed.

The production stars Tala Ashe (English), Geneva Carr (Bull), Julie Halston (Hairspray, Gypsy), Louis Ozawa (Jack Ryan), Gabrielle Policano (Baby Girl), Matthew Saldívar (Bernhardt/Hamlet), and Maggie Siff (Billions).

They are supported by an array of favored Second Stage creatives, including scenic design by Myung Hee Cho, costume design by Emilio Sosa, lighting design by Jeff Croiter, sound design by Darron L West, projection design by Elaine J. McCarthy, and original music by Dan Ryan. Casting is by The Telsey Office.
