Massachusetts' Barrington Stage Company will stage a 50th anniversary production of long-running Broadway favorite A Chorus Line this summer, with performances running July 15-August 8, 2026, on the Boyd Quinson Stage. Artistic director Alan Paul will direct.

“Directing A Chorus Line for its 50th anniversary is both a privilege and a thrill,” says Paul in a statement. “It remains the greatest musical about the theatre ever created—a brilliant, heartfelt celebration of the people who devote their lives to this art form. It’s been many years since Barrington Stage Company has staged a major dance musical, so bringing this landmark work to our 2026 season is an honor. I can’t wait for audiences to experience its power anew.”

The work features a book by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante, music by Marvin Hamlisch, and lyrics by Edward Kleban. Set at an audition for a Broadway ensemble, the work unfolds mostly in real time as the hopefuls show off their skills trying to get the job, and get surprisingly personal when the director wants to know more about them as people.

The musical, which debuted in 1975 at Off-Broadway's Public before moving to Broadway, was the brainchild of original director-choreographer Michael Bennett. The production became one of Broadway's biggest hits, winning nine 1976 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and ultimately running for 15 years and 6,137 performances—for a time, the longest of any production on Broadway. Hamlisch and Kleban's score introduced such showtune classics as "At the Ballet," "Dance: Ten; Looks: Three," "What I Did for Love," and "One."

Barrington's production is being presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals. Further creative team members and casting are to be announced.

Tickets are available via season subscriptions at BarringtonStageCo.org.
