Producer Don Carmody told Screen International that Evil Dead: The Musical's Off-Broadway co-directors, Christopher Bond and Hinton Battle, have signed on to re-create their work for a 3-D screen adaptation of the Off-Broadway musical.

Carmody hopes to begin filming in the spring of 2009, reuniting members of the original cast. The producer said that rights issues must still be ironed out before filming begins.

Evil Dead: The Musical began its life in workshop engagements at Toronto's Transac Club before the work moved to Montreal's Cabaret du Plateau as part of the 2004 Just For Laughs Festival. The production played 160 performances Off-Broadway at New World Stages from Oct. 2, 2006-Feb. 17, 2007.

Original Off-Broadway cast members included Ryan Ward (as Ash), Jennifer Byrne (Linda), Jenna Coker (Cheryl), Christy McIntosh (Annie/ Shelly), Tom Walker (Ed/ Moose), Brandon Wardell (Scott), Ryan Williams (Fake Shemp) and Darryl Winslow (Jake).
