Making her big entrance as head of The Plastics eight shows a week in Mean Girls makes Taylor Louderman nervous.
“It’s on a rolling table!” she says. But she knows the impact the image has as part of the status of her character. “So the whole time I'm just standing there going ‘Don’t move. Just stand there. Don’t move a muscle.’ Because I am nervous that if I falter even a little bit the audience is going to go ‘Nope!’”
Now Tony-nominated for her performance as a Leading Actress in a Musical, Louderman taps into both the conniving and vulnerable parts of the complex role—even though she was not part of the popular clique during her own high school days. “I was a floater. I bounced around. I tried a lot of different roles,” she says. “I wasn't nearly as good at the mean girl part as Regina George.”
