Awards 2023 Tony Awards, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Sarah Paulson, More Earn 2024 Emmy Award Nominations

Plus: Will Dear Evan Hansen writers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul achieve EGOT status at this year's Emmys?

Nominations for the 2024 Emmy Awards were revealed July 17, and a host of stage favorites are among the roster of artists that earned nods.

Perhaps most notably, this year's ceremony could make Dear Evan Hansen writers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul EGOT winners. They're nominated alongside fellow Broadway songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman for their work on Only Murders in the Building, specifically the song "Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?" Pasek and Paul won Academy and Tony Awards in 2017, for La La Land's "City of Stars" and Dear Evan Hansen, respectively; and added a Grammy for Dear Evan Hansen's Broadway cast album in 2018.

In the leading actor and actress categories, the nominees include Matt Bomer for his work in Fellow Travelers; Tom Hollander for Feud: Capote vs. the Swans; Andrew Scott for Ripley; Carrie Coon for The Gilded Age; Imelda Staunton for The Crown; Larry David for Curb Your Enthusiasm; Steve Martin and Martin Short, both for Only Murders in the Building; and Jean Smart for Hacks.

Supporting and guest categories saw nods for Paul Rudd for Only Murders in the Building; Jonathan Pryce for The Crown and Slow Horses; Jonathan Bailey for Fellow Travelers; Treat Williams for Feud: Capote vs. The Swans; Carol Burnett for Palm Royale; Liza Colón-Zayas for The Bear; Sheryl Lee Ralph for Abbott Elementary; Meryl Streep for Only Murders in the Building; Christine Baranski for The Gilded Age; Holland Taylor for The Morning ShowMatthew Broderick for Only Murders in the Building; Tracy Letts for Winning Time; Da'Vine Joy Randolph for Only Murders in the Building; Marcia Gay Harden for The Morning Show; and Sarah Paulson for Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

Broadway names also received nominations in voice-over, narration, and hosting categories, including Hannah Waddingham for Krapopolis; Paul Rudd for Secrets of the Ocotpus; RuPaul Charles for RuPaul's Drag Race; Alan Cumming for The Traitors; Jane Lynch for Weakest Link; and Keke Palmer for Password.

The 76th Annual Tony Awards earned several nominations for the 2023 unscripted live broadcast, earning nods in Outstanding Choreography for Variety or Reality Programming (Broadway's Karla Puno Garcia), Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special (Glenn Weiss), Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction for a Variety of Special, and Outstanding Variety Series.

Behind the scenes, several Broadway mainstays were recognized for their TV work. Telsey and Co's Bernard Telsey, Tiffany Little Canfield, and Destiny Lilly are nominated for Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series for their work on Only Murders in the Building, and John Carrafa picked up a nod for his choreography on the series as well, and Leah J. Loukas and Jimmy Goode were nominated alongside Jameson Eaton and J. Roy Helland for their work on the series' hairstyling team. Along with his nomination for the Only Murders song, Shaiman got a nod for Outstanding Music Composition for a Documentary Series or Special for Albert Brooks: Defending My LifeWaitress composer and Into the Woods star Sara Bareilles got a nomination in the same category, for "The Medium Time" from Girls5Eva.

Two Broadway shows also got Emmy nominations, via their live stage films. Alex Edelman's Just For Us and Mike Birbiglia's The Old Man and the Pool both got nods in the Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special category.

This year's Emmy ceremony was postponed due to Hollywood strikes, with this year's nominees representing primetime television programming from June 1, 2023–May 31, 2024. The Creative Arts ceremony will be held September 7 and 8 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with the main ceremony following September 15. The latter will broadcast live on ABC.
