In the 17 years since Jason Robert Brown's 13 The Musical premiered on Broadway, a lot has changed. The musical, featuring a book by Dan Elish and Tony winner Robert Horn, marked the first—and to date, only—musical to feature a cast and band comprising entirely of teenagers.
Running for just over 100 performances on Broadway from 2008 to 2009, the show became a hit on the educational circuit, speaking to young teens everywhere as they've wrestled with what it means to become your own person. With a 2022 Netflix film adaptation, and interest in Jason Robert Brown's work spiking higher than ever before (his The Last Five Years will play Broadway this spring), we couldn't help but wonder: What is going on with the now-mostly-30-years-old cast in their adult lives?
Consider this your official check in with the original Broadway company to see what they've been up to since they discovered "what it means to be a friend."

Al Calderon (Eddie)
Since 13, Calderon has focused most of his energies on screen work. In 2017, he blended both of his backgrounds as Alfred in Michael John LaChiusa and Cory Krueckeberg's musical film Hello Again. The romantic drama, which follows 10 lost souls as they slip in and out of one another's arms, explores the bittersweet side of love. Calderon portrayed a 1929 college student struggling with intimacy after seducing his lover, a young married woman (played by Rumer Willis). Nowadays, he is also a recording artist, releasing both English and Spanish-language music, which can be found on all streaming platforms.

Eamon Foley (Richie)
Foley had one of the longest resumes of the 13 cast, as an already respected child performer. With time on the Broadway boards working with Bernadette Peters in Gypsy and Michael Cerveris in Assassins, is it any surprise he has remained a true Broadway baby? Now an accomplished director, choreographer, and filmmaker, he founded the non-profit producing entity Grind Arts, which has brought him across the globe.
Caitlin Gann (Molly)
Gann has one of the most interesting claims to fame on this list; she was megastar Timotheé Chalamet's first leading lady when the pair starred opposite each other in LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts Manhattan's production of Sweet Charity. Since graduating, however, Gann has stepped out of the spotlight, preferring to maintain a private presence away from public life.

Elizabeth Gillies (Lucy)
13 may be Gillies' only Broadway credit, but she's certainly still keeping busy! She starred as the alternative icon Jade West in the Nickelodeon series Victorious, kicking off an extensive television career that has included Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, Dynasty, Winx Club, Catwoman: Hunted, and more. February 25 marks her long-awaited return to the stage as she slips on the leopard print pumps of Audrey in the long running Off-Broadway revival of Little Shop of Horrors.

Ariana Grande (Charlotte)
Surely you know what Grande has been up to! Since making her Broadway debut in 13 the Musical, Grande has become a bonafide megastar, starring in the Nickelodeon show Victorious alongside Gillies before launching her chart-topping career as a pop star. In recent years, she has returned to musical theatre, first as Penny in Hairspray Live! before launching to even greater heights as Glinda in the blockbuster smash film adaptation of Wicked. Grande even picked up an Oscar nomination for her performance. Here's hoping we get her back on the live stage soon!

Aaron Simon Gross (Archie)
After 10 years as an actor, Gross has turned his love for storytelling in a multitude of different directions, working as a director and theatre educator for an array of new plays, musicals, and drag shows throughout New York and the regional circuit. Currently, he is pursuing a Masters Degree in Journalism from Columbia University, after receiving a Theatre and Gender Studies from Northwestern University. His Masters' work is focused on gender and health in New York City, including monkeypox vaccine access and supervised opioid use sites.

Malik Hammond (Malcolm)
Since 13, Hammond has been putting in the work on television and in the recording booth. Hammond has worked with an array of musicians over the last seven years, but his current venture seems poised to take off. Alongside Saudi American musician Nory Aronfeld, Hammond is a part of Nory & The King, which released its first eponymous EP January 10. Additionally, Hammond released a solo single January 5 called "Addicted." His music can be streamed on Spotify now.

Joey LaVarco (Simon)
LaVarco has never stopped hustling. Since 13, La Varco has worked with a wide range of Jersey Boys companies, beginning with the Off-Broadway run at New World Stages. For the last five years, LaVarco has performed in a number of Jersey Boys engagements; elsewhere, he has performed as a part of The Radio City Christmas Spectacular (both in New York and on tour), and on 30 Rock, Late Night w/ Seth Meyers, and The Wonderpets. He even recently sat in the director's chair to direct a regional production of 13!

Delaney Moro (Kendra)
Like many child stars, Moro chose to eschew a public life after coming of age; outside of a brief appearance on Amazon's Modern Love in 2019, she has retreated from acting. We hope she is well, and enjoying her peace!

Eric Nelsen (Brett)
Nelsen has had quite the career since 13! On screen, he starred in the Paramount+ Western 1883, and has appeared on a wide range of television shows, including All My Children, The Affair, The Blacklist, Girls, The Following, NCIS, Blue Bloods, and iCarly. In 2018, he won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Digital Daytime Drama Series for his work on the Amazon web series The Bay, and three additional Daytime Emmys as a series' producer. At just 23, he became the youngest producer in history to win an Emmy Award, a feat he replicated as a producer on the Tony-winning play The Inheritance.

Graham Phillips (Evan)
Phillips may not have been back on Broadway since 13, but he's certainly kept busy. On television, he played the role of Zach Florrick on the CBS legal drama The Good Wife, starred as Ben Tennyson in the film Ben 10: Race Against Time, and brought the troublemaking Nick St. Clair to life in Riverdale. In 2019, he played Prince Eric in ABC's The Little Mermaid Live!.

Corey J. Snide (Evan Alternate)
Long before 13, Snide was dancing up a storm as Billy Elliot on the London side of the pond, and he's continued to dance through life ever since. Snide served as a dance captain for the 2016 Broadway revival of Cats and the 2018 revival of Carousel, as well as understudying the role of Riff in the 2020 revival of West Side Story. A Juilliard graduate, he founded Capital District Arts Initiative, an inclusive initiative dedicated to fostering collaboration among local performing artists and building a sustainable arts community in New York's Capital Region—through educational, community, pre-professional, and professional programs.

Allie Trimm (Patrice)
After 13, Trimm starred as Kim MacAfee in the 2009 revival of Bye Bye Birdie. After a brief time away to finish her education, she was back in 2021, joining the wonderful world of Oz as a standby for Glinda the Good in Wicked. Starting March 4, she will be taking over the role full time, making her the second 13 alum to play the perfectly popular witch from the Upper Uplands!

Brynn Williams (Cassie)
Williams had quite the career as a child star, performing in In My Life, Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang before her stint in 13. Like Trimm, Williams also starred in the 2009 revival of Bye Bye Birdie; she played Ursula Merkle, the fanatical stan of Conrad Birdie. That same year, she performed in the centennial celebration of Frank Loesser, Chance & Chemistry, before taking an educational breather. By 2016, she was back, appearing in David Bowie's Lazarus, understudying the role of Sandy Cheeks in SpongeBob SquarePants, and touring Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as Violet Beauregarde. We can't wait to see what is surely next!

Riley Costello (Understudy)
Are you starting to notice a pattern? Like many of his 13 castmates, Costello found an artistic home in the 2009 revival of Bye Bye Birdie, where he understudied Randolph MacAfee, before making a pitstop in Everyday Rapture before nestling into the Wicked family. Costello played Boq on Broadway before and after the pandemic. He was even a part of Hairspray Live! alongside Grande. Nowadays, he lives in Los Angeles, pursuing a film and music career. In 2023, he provided vocals for the Disney film Wish. At the Coachella music festival in 2024, he provided backing vocals for Grammy nominated singer/songwriter RAYE.

Henry Hodges (Understudy)
Beginning at the age of 4, Hodges was a prolific child actor, performing on Broadway in Beauty and the Beast, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Macbeth, and Mary Poppins. His relationship with Disney Theatricals led to his being heavily featured in the interactive book How Does the Show Go On. That eventually led to a book of his own, How to Act Like a Kid, chronicling his acting experiences and sharing advice with other kids who were interested in getting into showbiz. He also helped to re-envision the stage production of Disney's The Little Mermaid at Sacramento Music Circus, evolving the role of Flounder to suit his then-teenage self. These days, he enjoys a hard-earned private life, but who knows! He may pop back up in the Disney firmament once more soon.

Mary Claire Miskell (Understudy)
A career in the arts doesn't always mean a career on the stage! Miskell worked in theatre for a brief period as an adult before transitioning in the public relations side of show business, working for Biz3 and Aimee Majoros Public Relations before settling into her current role at Brooklyn's Shore Fire Media, where she is an account executive working with Kylie Minogue, Kool & The Gang, Chrissy Chlapecka, New York Public Radio, Louis Armstrong House Museum & Archives, Nile Rodgers' DiscOasis, The Capitol Theatre, The Rock & Roll Playhouse, and more.

Max Schneider (Understudy)
Schneider has had one of the most interesting career ascents of the entire cast! A model as well as a performer, he did an international ad campaign with Madonna for Dolce & Gabbana in 2010, starred on the Nickelodeon show How To Rock, and toured with Victoria Justice (when most teens would've been stressing about the SATs and college prospects). He has since focused in in music, releasing under his all-caps mononym MAX. His 2016 single "Lights Down Low" went triple platinum, and in 2019 he was nominated for Best New Pop Artist at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. With more than 6.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify, his most recent album, Love In Stereo, was released in 2024. He augments his own releases by writing for other musical artists, including Jin of the massive KPOP band BTS.
Liana Ortiz (Understudy)
Ortiz was quite the dancer as a child, portraying Young Chita Rivera in Rivera's autobiographical show The Dancer's Life in 2005. But since 13, she has fully exited the public arena. We hope she is happy and healthy wherever she may be!
