How to Broadway-size Your Next Party or Event with PLAYBILLDER
Since it was first published in 1865, Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland has captured the imagination of children and adults alike. The author approached Arthur Sullivan in 1877 about the possibility of making a musical-theatrical adaptation (this was before Carroll became terribly offended by the use of strong language in Gilbert and Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore) but the composer was uninterested. The book eventually reached the stage in 1886 with music by Walter Slaughter and additional lyrics by Henry Saville Clark, and then the floodgates were open. In the century-and-a-half since, countless plays, musicals, ballets, operas, and more have been created based on Carroll's surreal fantasy. Today, we're taking a look at 10 of them put on by schools and community theatres around the country. Each one curiouser and curiouser than the last, these eye-catching covers certainly say "read me!"
