Playbill asked the cast and creative team of the upcoming Fox live broadcast of Jonathan Larson’s Rent about the challenges and advantages of taking the story from the stage to the screen.
Alex Rudzinski, the live television director says, “The challenges of doing anything for the screen, especially in the live environment, is making sure that you do your prep and making sure it’s as robust as possible in terms of its presentation.”
The broadcast, which airs January 27, stars Vanessa Hudgens, Brandon Victor Dixon, Jordan Fisher, and more. Tony Award-nominated director Michael Greif, who staged the original Rent, will oversee the stage direction while Rudzinski (Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, Grease: Live) is the live television director. Musical direction is by Stephen Oremus.
