After much anticipation and speculation, Angela Lansbury will headline a production of Enid Bagnold’s The Chalk Garden—for one night only. The Tony winner and Academy Award honoree will lead a staged reading to benefit The Acting Company June 19 at Hunter College’s Kay Playhouse. Frank Dunlop will direct.

Tickets, priced at $150–$350, are now on sale; visit KayePlayhouse.PrimeTix.com or call (212) 772-4448.

In June of 2016, Lansbury confirmed to Playbill her intention to bring the show to Broadway with producer Scott Rudin. The project had long been in development, as Lansbury had also said in a 2013 radio interview that she was aiming to headline a production later that fall.

The Chalk Garden premiered on Broadway in 1955. It follows Mrs. Saint Maugham (Lansbury), a former London society heiress in search of a governess for her brazen granddaughter Laurel. Laurel immediately bonds with Miss Madrigal, a woman with no references and a mysterious past.

Additional casting will be announced shortly. The event will feature lighting design by Greg MacPherson and sound design by Tim Boyce.
