The Broadway revival of Kenneth Lonergan’s memory play The Waverly Gallery officially opens on Broadway October 25 at the John Golden Theatre. The play, a 2001 Pulitzer Prize finalist, is about the final years of a grandmother’s battle against Alzheimer’s disease.
Lila Neugebauer directs a cast led by Oscar nominees Elaine May as the feisty Gladys Green and Lucas Hedges as her grandson. In The Waverly Gallery, Gladys is an old-school lefty and longtime owner of a small art gallery in Greenwich Village. The story intimately observes the impacts of her decline on her work and her family, especially her grandson.

The Waverly Gallery began previews on Broadway September 25. Tony Award winners Joan Allen and David Cromer and Tony nominee Michael Cera complete the cast.
The production features sets by David Zinn, costumes by Ann Roth, lighting design by Brian MacDevitt, sound design by Leon Rothenberg, and hair and make-up design by Luc Verschueren for Campbell Young Associates. Gabriel Kahane has composed original music.
The Waverly Gallery premiered at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in August 1999, before opening Off-Broadway at the Promenade Theatre in March 2000. The Broadway revival marks the second Kenneth Lonergan play to be seen on the Great White Way in 2018, following Second Stage's production of Lobby Hero earlier this season.
