Six stage alums will serve as mentors for the finalists of the 2018 Jimmy Awards, to be held June 25.
Adam Kantor (currently on Broadway in the Tony-winning The Band’s Visit), Tony nominee Howard McGillin, Lisa Brescia, Maryann Hu, Natalie Weiss, and Schele Williams will coach the 80 high school students throughout the week. Their training culminates in ensemble and solo performances at the tenth annual ceremony as the students showcase the roles that earned them acclaim in their communities.
The students’ preparation for the event also includes a training intensive with NYU Tisch School of the Arts’ New Studio on Broadway faculty members and sessions with theatre professionals.
As previously announced, this year’s ceremony, hosted by Laura Benanti, will be live streamed in its entirety from the Minskoff Theatre on Facebook with support from Dear Evan Hansen and Wells Fargo.
This year’s judges panel consists of Dawn Elin Fraser, Alecia Parker, Marc Platt, Tara Rubin, Nick Scandalios, Tom Schumacher, Bernie Telsey, and Charlotte Wilcox. Gabriel Barre, Jeff Calhoun, Wayne Cilento, Victoria Clark, Kent Gash, and Stephanie Klapper will serve as preliminary judges while the students rehearse at NYU.
