Performances began September 11 for the Public Theater's North American premiere of Girl From the North Country, the new musical by Bob Dylan and Conor McPherson. The production debuted Off-Broadway following a critically acclaimed, sold-out run at London’s Old Vic and a subsequent West End transfer.
Girl From the North Country brings to life the tales of a local community on the brink of change in Duluth, Minnesota, in 1934. The new musical is written and directed by McPherson with music and lyrics by Dylan.
Following an extension, performances will continue at the Public Theater through December 9. The production will officially open October 1.
The cast Off-Broadway is made up of Todd Almond (Iowa) as Elias Burke, Tony nominee Mare Winningham (Casa Valentina) as Elizabeth Laine, Tony nominee Marc Kudisch (Finding Neverland, Hand to God) as Mr. Burke, Hamilton's Sydney James Harcourt as Joe Scott, Dear Evan Hansen's Colton Ryan as Gene Laine, and A Bronx Tale's Kimber Sprawl, who recently joined the company, as Marianne Laine (replacing the previously announced Samantha Marie Ware, who had a scheduling conflict).
