With Disney's brand new "live action" remake of The Lion King set to hit theatres July 18, the current cast of the beloved film's Tony-winning Broadway adaptation gathered at AMC Empire 25 on West 42nd Street to celebrate the film's release.
Members from the original 1997 Broadway cast were also in attendance, as well as cast members from Broadway's Frozen, Aladdin, Dear Evan Hansen, Hadestown, Ain't Too Proud, and more.
The all-star cast of the new, Jon Favreau-directed film includes Donald Glover as Simba, James Earl Jones reprising his voice performance as Mufasa, Beyoncé as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, John Kani as Rafiki, John Oliver as Zazu, Billy Eichner as Timon, and Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, with Amy Sedaris as a new character written specifically for this adaptation.
The stage adaptation of the Disney title continues its Broadway run at the Minskoff Theatre, having celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2017.
