The world premiere of Hungry officially opens at The Public Theater March 4, following previews that began February 27. The production is the first in the three-play cycle, The Gabriels: Election Year in the Life of One Family, written and directed by Richard Nelson.

With the final play set to open on election night, the works track the lives of a family throughout the current presidential election year.

The cast includes Meg Gibson as Karin Gabriel, Lynn Hawley as Hannah Gabriel, Roberta Maxwell as Patricia Gabriel, Maryann Plunkett as Mary Gabriel, Jay O. Sanders as George Gabriel and Amy Warren as Joyce Gabriel.

Hungry is scheduled to run through March 27. It introduces audiences to the Gabriels of Rhinebeck, NY. "To the rhythm of peeling, chopping and mixing, Hungry places us in the center of the Gabriels’ kitchen," state press notes. "The family discusses their lives and disappointments, and the world at large and nearby, as they struggle against the fear of being left behind and the challenge to find resilience in the face of loss."

Tony Award-winning playwright and director Nelson returns to the Public following his 2013 play cycle The Apple Family Plays, which were original premieres tethered to specific moments in American politics; Nelson would update the script to reflect recent developments. In the same spirit, The Gabriels cycle features a core acting company and unfolds in real time over a couple of hours. The second play, What Did You Expect?, will debut in September and the last, Women of a Certain Age, will open on election night, November 8.
