The musical episode of ABC’s Once Upon a Time aired May 7, bringing a handful of musical theatre-esque tunes to the town of Storybrooke. Take a look at three numbers—penned by First Date composing team Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner—below. Lyrics are included in the music videos, so if you are so inclined to sing along, you’re more than welcome.
Ginnifer Goodwin—who will soon make her L.A. stage debut in the Geffen’s production of Constellations—and Josh Dallas kicked off the episode with Snow White and Prince Charming’s ode to love, “Powerful Magic.”
The Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla) also sang about love—as enthusiastically as Snow and Charming but with a decidedly different take. Watch her “Love Doesn’t Stand a Chance” below.
Also embracing the dark side in song was Colin O’Donoghue, who performed Hook’s “Revenge Is Gonna Be Mine.”
Once Upon a Time’s musical endeavor, titled “The Song In Your Heart,” is not the first song-infused episode of a series this year. The CW’s The Flash and Supergirl aired a two-part crossover event, featuring music from Oscar winners and Dear Evan Hansen Tony nominees Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Additionally, the SyFy series The Magicians payed homage to Les Miserables in a March episode.
