The new musical Alice By Heart has extended its world-premiere engagement Off-Broadway for a second time. Performances are now scheduled to run through April 7 (instead of the previously announced March 31).
The show, by Waitress scribe Jessie Nelson and Spring Awakening duo Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater, adapts Lewis Carroll’s famed fantasy into a London-set tale against the backdrop of World War II, as Alice and her friend Alfred journey down a rabbit hole to find love, loss, and the courage to move forward despite harsh circumstances.
After kicking off previews January 30, the production, directed by Nelson, will officially open February 26. The MCC Theater production plays the company’s new uptown venue, The Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space.
Leading the cast as Alice is Molly Gordon, along with Colton Ryan as Alfred/The White Rabbit. They are joined by Mia DiLena, Zachary Downer, Noah Galvin, Ari Groover, Michael Hartung, Zachary Infante, Andrew Kober, Grace McLean, Andrew Mueller, Nkeiki Obi-Melekwe, Catherine Ricafort, Heath Saunders, Wesley Taylor, and Natalie Walker.Kim Blanck joins the production beginning March 5, replacing Obi-Melekwe, who, as recently announced, will take on the title role in Tina — The Tina Turner Musical in London's West End.
