MCC Theater celebrated the opening of the Off-Broadway premiere of Aziza Barnes' BLKS May 9. Robert O'Hara directs the new comedy, previously seen in Chicago, from the poet and playwright.
Set over the course of a day as humorous as it is painful, BLKS follows a trio of 20something women hunting for intimacy and purpose in New York City. Leading the cast are School Girls' Paige Gilbert, Is God Is'Alfie Fuller, and Antoinette Crowe-Legacy (If Pretty Hurts Ugly Must Be a Muhfucka) as Octavia, Imani, and June. Rounding out the cast Off-Broadway are Marié Botha, Chris Myers, and Coral Peňa.
Performances of BLKS began April 23 in the Newman Mills Theater at The Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space.
