Jeremy Shamos (Meteor Shower) and Taylour Paige (who will star in the title role of the upcoming Zola) have joined the cast of the Denzel Washington-produced film adaptation of Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, according to Deadline. As previously reported, the Netflix project reunites Oscar winner Washington with his Fences co-star Viola Davis on another August Wilson classic.

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom will be directed by Tony winner George C. Wolfe. Also new to the cast are Jonny Coyne (Preacher) and Dusan Brown (The Lion Guard).

They join the previously announced Chadwick Boseman, Glynn Turman, Tony nominee Colman Domingo, and The Prom's Michael Potts.

Washington had previously announced that he had plans to produce all ten of Wilson's Century Cycle plays, with HBO originally attached. As well as starring in and directing a 2016 film adaptation of Fences, the actor appeared in the play on Broadway in 2010.

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom follows legendary blues musician “Ma” Rainey, an ambitious trumpeter facing the harsh reality of the music industry in 1927 Chicago. The play debuted on Broadway in 1984 and was revived in 2003 starring Whoopi Goldberg in the title role.
