The upcoming biopic about music legend Aretha Franklin will arrive in theatres in 2020. The film, starring Oscar winner and Broadway alum Jennifer Hudson, is slated to be released August 14 next year, according to Deadline.
As previously reported, Tony Award nominee Liesl Tommy (Eclipsed) will direct the MGM project, which will feature a script by Oscar winner Callie Khouri. The film charts the late Queen of Soul’s life from her days in the church choir to topping charts with “Respect,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” and more.
Straight Outta Compton’s Scott Bernstein and songwriter Harvey Mason Jr. will produce.
