Three-time Tony-winning choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler, whose work was most recently seen in FX's Fosse, has joined the creative team of the new musical Five Points as director-choreographer.
Blankenbuehler, who won Tonys for his choreography for Hamilton, Bandstand, and In the Heights, joins a creative team that also includes writers Harrison David Rivers (book), Ethan D. Pakchar (music), and Douglas Lyons (lyrics and music).
Inspired by the confluence of African-American and Irish cultures in New York City during the Civil War, Five Points tells the story of two men—Willie Lane, a young African-American performer at the famed Almack’s Dance Hall, and John Diamond, an Irish immigrant and former jig champion, who risk everything for their families in pursuit of the American Dream.
Five Points, which made its world premiere at Theater Latte Da in spring 2018, will be performed September 16 at Feinstein's/54 Below. Casting will be announced at a later date.
Blankenbuehler received the 2018 Kennedy Center Honors for his work on Hamilton. Further Broadway credits include Bring It On, 9 to 5, The People in the Picture, The Apple Tree, and Annie. He was also Tony-nominated for Bring It On and 9 to 5.
