Composer and singer-songwriter Gabriel Kahane will make his Broadway debut with the fall production of The Waverly Gallery, for which he has composed original music.

The Broadway revival of Kenneth Lonergan’s 2001 Pulitzer Prize finalist will begin September 25 at the John Golden Theatre ahead of an October 25 opening.

As previously announced, the cast of The Waverly Gallery, directed by Lila Neugebauer, is made up of Elaine May, Joan Allen, David Cromer, Lucas Hedges, and Michael Cera.

Kahane's theatrical song cycle The Ambassador, a musical exploration of Los Angeles, was staged at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 2014 with direction by Tony winner John Tiffany. Albums include The Ambassador, The Fiction Issue, and Where are the Arms. In August this year he released Book of Travelers, an album inspired by conversations on a train the morning following the 2016 Presidential election.

The Waverly Gallery is about the final years of a generous, chatty, and feisty grandmother’s final battle against Alzheimer’s disease. The play explores her fight to retain her independence and the impacts of her decline on her family.

The production will feature sets by David Zinn, costumes by Ann Roth, and lighting design by Brian MacDevitt.

The Waverly Gallery premiered at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in August 1999, before opening Off-Broadway at the Promenade Theatre in March 2000.
