Tony Award winners Sutton Foster (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Younger) and Renée Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton) are among Broadway guest luminaries who will lend their voices to the inaugural season of Sunny Day, the new Nickelodeon animated TV series that stars Lilla Crawford, Playbill has learned.
Crawford played Little Red Riding Hood in the 2014 film adaptation of Into the Woods, andthe title role in the 2012 Broadway revival of Annie.
Aimed at preschoolers, Sunny Day bows August 21 on Nickelodeon, and will also be seen on Treehouse TV starting at a date to be announced this fall. The show is based on Abie Longstaff’s children’s book series The Fairytale Hairdresser, illustrated by Lauren Beard.
Among other theatre-related names who will be lending their voices to guest roles on the project: Adam Jacobs (Aladdin), Shanice Williams (The Wiz Live!), Lance Bass (Hairspray), Ashley Parker Angel (Wicked), Jamie-Lynn Sigler (Beauty and the Beast), and Kether Donohue (Pitch Perfect).
They’ll join the previously announced Kevin Duda (Beautiful), Taylor Louderman (Kinky Boots), and Melissa van der Schyff, who was featured in Bonnie and Clyde and the revival of Big River.
Dates for their appearances are yet to be announced.
Crawford has also been announced as one of the stars of Netflix’s The Who Was? Show:
Wicked, injecting a new backstory onto the classic tale The Wizard of Oz, debuted on Broadway in 2003 and continues to be an audience favorite at the Gershwin Theatre.
Starring David Harewood, Toby Jones, Caitlin FitzGerald, Vinette Robinson and Luke Treadaway, the production be screened across the UK, US, Australia and selected international territories.
