After winning a Tony Award for his title performance in Broadway’s Dear Evan Hansen, Ben Platt has been tapped for his first film lead. The actor will headline Black Label Media’s upcoming Love & Oatmeal, according to Variety.
The film, penned by Steve Waverly and directed by Peter Sattler, will feature Platt as Scott, a young writer who must care for his mentally ill sister in the wake of their father’s death.
Production is expected to begin in the summer.
In addition to a Tony, Platt earned a Grammy Award earlier this year for his work on Dear Evan Hansen's cast recording (he also performed in the primetime ceremony). The Pitch Perfect and The Book of Mormon alum also has a debut album in the works through Atlantic Records.
Platt took his final bow in the Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, and Steven Levenson musical in November, with Noah Galvin succeeding him for a limited run. Taylor Tensch, a recent alum of Hello, Dolly!, now plays the title role.
