Netflix premieres the new series Special April 12. The offbeat comedy hails from Ryan O’Connell, writer of the memoir I’m Special: And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves. Check out the trailer above.
Ryan plays a version of himself, a gay man living with mild cerebral palsy who finds an opportunity to reshape his identity and gain a new kind of attention in his digital media internship.
The series also features Marla Mindelle (Titanique, Broadway’s Cinderella, Sister Act) as Olivia, Ryan’s click-minded boss, with Tony nominee Jessica Hecht (A View From the Bridge, The Price) as Ryan’s mother Karen.
O’Connell produces alongside Jim Parsons, who has been attached to the title since the memoir’s 2015 release.
