Goodspeed Musicals in Connecticut has announced casing for Daniel Zaitchik’s new musical Darling Grenadine. Zaitchik was the recipient of the 2017 Kleban Prize for Most Promising Musical Theatre Lyricist.
With book, music, and lyrics by Zaitchik, the production will star Emily Walton (Peter and the Starcatcher) and Bryan Fenkhart (Memphis) in a bittersweet tale about fun-loving jingle composer Harry, his girlfriend Louise, his brother Paul and beloved Labrador Retriever (also Paul!). The show in the style of a romantic comedy-meets-MGM-musical will play Goodspeed’s Terris Theatre August 18–September 17.
The company also includes Ben Mayne (Paul), puppeteer Phillip Huber (Paul the dog), and ensemblists Danyel Fulton, Nikko Kimzin, Leah Sprecher, and Kevin Zak. Directed by Kristin Hanggi (Rock of Ages), the show features choreography by Chase Brock, scenic and projection design by Edward T. Morris, costume design by Tilly Grimes, lighting design by Ben Stanton, sound design by Jay Hilton, music direction by David Gardos, and orchestrations by Matt Moisey.
