Actor, writer, and former correspondent for The Daily Show Aasif Mandvi returned to the stage October 5 in his Obie Award-winning Sakina’s Restaurant. The solo play, which is playing a limited run at the Minetta Lane Theatre, tells the story of an Indian immigrant who comes to New York to pursue the American dream.
Written and performed by Mandvi, the show officially opened October 14.
Originally seen Off-Broadway 20 years ago, Sakina’s Restaurant is remounted in an all-new production from Audible (which will also record the performance). Kimberly Senior directs.
Sakina’s Restaurant was originally directed and developed by Kimberly Hughes under the tutelage of Wynn Handman.
The creative team for the remount includes Wilson Chin (scenic design), Jen Caprio (costume design), Mary Louise Geiger (lighting design), and Jill BC Du Boff (sound design).
