Architect Herbert J. Krapp designed the Bijou Theatre, the smallest of the Shubert theatres, in 1917. It was located at 209 W. 45th Street. The Bijou housed the 1926 revival of What Every Woman Knows starring Helen Hayes. The Bijou Theatre later displayed the talents of Shirley Booth, Flora Robson, and Dorothy Parker. In 1957, Eugene O’Neill’s A Moon for the Misbegotten premiered here. The theatre was closed for renovations in 1959, and after reopening it was plagued by flops. In 1982 the Bijou was torn down, along with four other Broadway theatres, to make way for the Marriott Marquis.
