BREAKDOWN
THE STAIRCASE
SEEKING:
MOTHER: 70-80 years old, Native Hawaiian (or very close relationship to Hawaii/Hawaiian culture). She lives with her middle-aged son who takes care of her. Mother does most of the talking in their relationship. A storyteller. Likes to romanticize the past. She is prone to forgetfulness due to her advanced age. Not ornery. Content with her life but wishes her son would find a girl already.
SON: 40-50 years old, Native Hawaiian (or very close relationship to Hawaii/Hawaiian culture). Lives with his aging mother and is her caretaker. Tries to be patient. Often fails. Feels stuck in a routine, but is also comforted by it. Loves his mother. He stutters, though this condition has improved since childhood. He has a difficult time with confrontation.
