DC-area and Queer-identifying performers are encouraged to audition.
All roles will be understudied.
PREPARATION
Please prepare a contemporary monologue (2 minutes maximum). Bring a HARD COPY of your picture & resume. Be prepared to show your Equity membership card upon arrival.

BREAKDOWN
THE INHERITANCE PART I and II
Unless otherwise noted roles may be played by any ethnicity.
SEEKING:
[MORGAN / WALTER POOLE] – 50s-60s, male-identifying. [MORGAN] – eminent British author of
Howards End. A teacher/spiritual guide to a group of young male writers. [WALTER POOLE] – Henry’s partner. A haunted survivor of the AIDS epidemic, he has lived his later years extremely cautiously. Honest, gentile, constantly giving, lonely, and delicate.
[HENRY WILCOX] – 50s-60s, male-identifying. Walter’s partner. Extremely wealthy real estate developer. A survivor of the AIDS epidemic – he made it through by closing off the world, resulting in now being so divorced from his emotions that he finds personal connections extremely difficult. Refuses to acknowledge his trauma, he runs when feelings get too real.
[MARGARET] 60s/70s, female-identifying. Maternal, a caretaker, no nonsense but possesses a great warmth. The estranged mother of a son who died of AIDS, she has spent her life trying to help others who are suffering in an effort to atone for failing her son.
[ADAM MCDOWELL / LEO / YOUNG MAN 1] 20s, male-identifying. [ADAM] – Charming, comes from privilege, quite physically attractive and he knows it. Initially appears innocent and naive, but he is extremely smart and not to be underestimated, he knows what he needs to do to get what he wants.
[LEO] an unhoused sex worker who comes from an extremely meager background. Damaged and guarded, but aching for love and true human connection.
[ERIC GLASS / YOUNG MAN 9] 30s, male-identifying, white or mixed ethnicity. Compassionate, kind, loyal, incessantly giving. Searching for purpose and meaning in his life, he doesn’t realize his true potential until it presents itself to him. Always seeking and learning, a deeper well than most realize.
[TOBY DARLING / YOUNG MAN 10] 30s, male identifying. A party boy with wild ambition. Sexy (and knows it), bold, funny, unapologetically a social climber. Simultaneously thinks incredibly highly of himself, while struggling with a deep self-doubt under the surface. He uses his swagger to cover his fragility.
[JASON #1 / YOUNG MAN 2] 20s-40, male-identifying, black. A friend who’s always down for a good time. A lover of camp and community. Doubles as multiple roles.
[YOUNG HENRY / YOUNG MAN 3] late 20s-40, male-identifying. Madly in love with Young Walter. Initially idealistic, he becomes traumatized by the AIDS epidemic, resulting in the guarded adult that HENRY ultimately becomes. Doubles as multiple roles.
[YOUNG WALTER / YOUNG MAN 4] late 20s- 40, male identifying. Gentle, loyal, and ultimately highly principled. He finds his calling in the AIDS epidemic, and is willing to give up anything to do the right thing. Doubles as multiple roles.
[CHARLES WILCOX / TOBY’S AGENT / YOUNG MAN 5] late 20s – 40, male identifying.
[CHARLES] Henry’s son, protective of his father and his father’s fortune, untrusting of anyone who tries to get close to Henry. [TOBY’S AGENT] A young power agent at a top agency, he knows how to stoke egos and how to cut throats. Doubles as multiple roles
[TRISTAN / YOUNG MAN 6] 30s - 40s, male-identifying, black. An ER doctor, always has a witty retort and astute observation. A good friend. Doubles as multiple roles.
[JASPER / PAUL WILCOX / YOUNG MAN 7] late 20s-40, male identifying. [JASPER] a political social justice entrepreneur who is blind to his own privilege. Well-intentioned but immature, election outcomes harden him quickly, resulting in trouble maintaining friendships. Quick to anger and sever ties. [PAUL WILCOX] Henry’s son, a steamroller, extremely protective of his father and distrusting of those who try to get close to him. Doubles as multiple roles.
[JASON #2 / YOUNG MAN 8] late 20s-40, male identifying, Latinx. A lover of musicals, camp, and clubs. Quick to hijack a conversation, the life of the party. Doubles as multiple roles.
