Breakdown

JAY GATSBY - early 30s - Dashing and obsessive. Gatsby is “new money.” Having pulled himself up by his bootstraps through shady business dealings that he’ll never admit, he is now the paragon of the American Dream. Vocal range: thrilling and distinctive pop tenor with the ability to navigate multiple genres.

NICK CARRAWAY - 29 - Thoughtful, observant and optimistic on his arrival in New York City, Nick is swept up by the wealth and the glamor he’s surrounded by. Vocal range: pop tenor.

DAISY BUCHANAN - late 20s - Nick’s cousin. Charming, witty, and secretly brilliant. Daisy was once a debutante of the highest order, and now she’s a wife and newly a mother. Her voice is full of money. Her smile could light up the World’s Fair. Vocal range: thrilling and distinctive pop soprano with a high belt to an F, down to an F below middle C. Ability to navigate multiple genres.

TOM BUCHANAN - early-30s - Daisy’s husband. “Old money,” classic boys-will-be-boys “gentleman” who has never had to work a day in his life. He has the caustic dry wit of a blowhard. Vocal range: baritone.

JORDAN BAKER - 20s - Daisy’s best friend. A New Woman. Unmarried. A golfer. Jordan has her finger on the pulse of what makes New York City tick. Always has a wisecrack ready, always wants to have the last word. A strong dancer/mover. Vocal range: strong pop belt; range is flexible.

MYRTLE WILSON - 30s - the life of the party if she weren’t stuck living above a garage in the middle of nowhere. Myrtle is a striver, a flirt, and a loud mouth with a passion for the finer things. Married to George Wilson. Vocal range: strong, character-driven alto.

GEORGE WILSON - 30s - a loner with a penchant for talking to a large billboard that hangs over his garage. He is desperately trying to get out of Queens, and regain the love of his wife Myrtle, who feels like she’s slipping through his fingers. Vocal range: baritone.

WOLFSHEIM - 50s-60s - Wolfsheim is a larger-than-life gangster who is equal parts warm and
menacing. A strong mover. Vocal range: strong, character-driven baritone.
