DESCRIPTION

The North Country Center for the Arts at Jean’s Playhouse, a 260-seat professional theatre located in the rural resort town of Lincoln, New Hampshire, is seeking a Music Director for its 2026 Summer Season. The season features Hairspray and Footloose, performed in rotating repertory.

Dates of employment are June 22 through August 22 (9 weeks). The first five weeks are dedicated to rehearsals, tech'ing, and opening both productions. Sundays are the designated day off during this period. The remaining four weeks consist of repertory performances, with the two shows alternating every two to three performances. During the run, there are at least two days off per week, with three to five weekly performances and no two-show days.

The Music Director is responsible for all vocal and musical elements of the productions. Duties include teaching music and harmonies to the cast, accompanying rehearsals on piano, adapting orchestrations for a small band of 5 or 6 musicians to achieve a full sound, rehearsing and working with musicians, programming keyboards as needed, and performing as lead keyboard while conducting performances. The position may also include participation in select marketing events and performances, including the theatre’s 40th Anniversary Summer Gala.

Qualified candidates should have strong piano skills, experience in music direction, effective leadership abilities, and a collaborative, detail-oriented approach. Familiarity with MainStage is a must and the ability to provide personal computer equipment is preferred, but not required.
