Stagehand: Electrics Department

Little Island seeks stagehands with a focus in lighting to join the Artistic Programming Department. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, operating, and maintaining lighting elements for a variety of multi-disciplinary events and performances achieving Little Island’s artistic goals.

A successful electrics stagehand will be a flexible team member with a passion for supporting artistic needs, strong problem-solving skills and experience in entertainment industry electrics work. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, prioritizes safety and values hospitality in all aspects of their work. These positions are governed by Little Island’s collective bargaining agreement with IATSE Local One and report directly to the Production Manager.

  • Schedule Expectations: The schedule will include frequent evening, overnight, holiday and weekend shifts.

Electrics Department Roles and Hourly Rates

  • Amph Lighting Operator: $41.00/hour

  • Operate the lighting console for all Amph performances.

  • Supervise daily stage setup, maintenance and breakdown calls.

  • Participate in seasonal and project-specific load-ins and load-outs.

  • Execute basic programming changes as required.

  • Glade Lighting Operator: $37.04/hour

  • Operate the lighting console for all Glade performances, making live adjustments to color and intensity within the repertory plot to support the work on stage.

  • Participate in seasonal and project-specific load-ins and load-outs, both in the Glade and in the Amph.

  • Electrics Overhire: $34.39/hour

  • Serve as overhire electrics stagehand, board operator or spotlight operator as-needed for project specific load-ins, load-outs, show runs and maintenance calls.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate closely with the Production Manager, project-specific designers and other Artistic Programming staff to ensure the successful and safe execution of the technical requirements for a variety of events.

  • Prepare, load-in, maintain and load-out lighting equipment on our outdoor stages, both for the season and on a day-to-day basis.

  • Troubleshoot electrics equipment as needed.

  • Work collaboratively on interdepartmental tasks, including stage setup and equipment maintenance.

  • Adhere to Little Island’s safety protocols and actively contribute to maintaining a safe work environment.

  • Perform other duties and tasks related to the park and its artistic programming operations as assigned.

What You Bring

  • Relevant lighting experience, including proficiency in programming, safe rigging practices and general lighting system troubleshooting techniques.

  • Experience programming and busking on ETC and/or MA consoles.

  • Familiarity with GroundControl followspot operation and maintenance is a plus.

  • Strong interest in working in public performance settings, with a focus on guest interaction as a key component of daily production activities.

  • Knowledge of aerial lift operation (including scissor lifts and articulating boom lifts) is a plus.

  • A commitment to fostering camaraderie and excellence by proactively collaborating and problem-solving across departments.

  • The ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. overhead for sustained periods.

  • Comfort with safely ascending and descending ladders.

  • Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends.
