Stage Operations Apprentice
Theatre Aspen, the award-winning professional theatre company nestled in the heart of the Colorado Rockies, is seeking a Stage Operations Apprentice to join our 2026 summer team. For over forty years, Theatre Aspen has been the region’s most celebrated theatrical institution—producing world-class performances and attracting acclaimed artists to one of the most unique destinations in the world.
The Stage Operations Apprentice plays a vital role in bringing the creative team’s vision to life. They are responsible for the daily care and maintenance of the set and serve as part of the backstage running crew throughout the summer season. This role involves close collaboration with the stage management and technical teams during changeovers, load-ins, and load-outs. The apprentice may also be called upon to support other departments—such as painting, props, lighting, or sound—demonstrating flexibility and teamwork across the production.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Support the load in, load out, and changeover of all shows. Assist all production departments as needed
- Serve as a run crew member for all Mainstage productions, assisting with pre-set and breakdown of the stage for technical rehearsals and all performances
- Assist the wardrobe supervisor with setting up and maintaining backstage quick change areas, including installing hooks and mirrors as needed
- Support the assistant stage manager with quick problem solving throughout the run of the show
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to stage equipment and coordinate with the appropriate technical departments to address the problem
- Assist with any backstage scenic or prop repairs, in consultation with the technical director and props supervisor
- Ensure backstage is kept safe and clean at all times
- Assist the site supervisor with closing down the tent as needed
- Assist the stage management team and technical director with ensuring adherence to all safety protocols onstage and backstage
- Support the stage management team and production team with any addition tasks as needed in order to facilitate a smooth production process
- Maintain a supportive environment for the actors, creatives, and crew
- Assist with the summer gala as needed
Requirements / Qualifications:
- You are a college-aged young professional, a currently-enrolled college student, or a recently-graduated college student no more than 12 months past your graduation (December 2025 or after), with either a declared major in a related field or relevant experience in the industry
- You have a passion for the Arts and Theatre and bringing both to the Aspen community
- You have basic carpentry skills and a strong interest in running shows
- You believe in teamwork, camaraderie, and have a willingness to pitch in
- You have excellent people skills
- Must be a highly organized individual, team player, and a creative problem solver
