DESCRIPTION

Youth Theatre Stage Manager / Educator
NCCA Jean’s Playhouse – Lincoln, NH

NCCA Jean’s Playhouse, a professional theatre in the heart of New Hampshire’s White Mountains, is seeking a Stage Manager / Educator for our growing StageSetters Youth Program.

This is not your average stage management gig—it’s a hands-on, all-in, roll-up-your-sleeves kind of experience!

About the Program

StageSetters is a young but growing program which bring meaningful theatre education to local youth (primarily ages 10–14) in a rural community with limited access to the arts. In just a few years, our spring show show has grown from 8 students to over 20.

Each spring, we produce a fully staged play featuring 20 - 30 young performers. Rehearsals run approximately 3 or 4 evenings per week plus Sunday afternoons for 4 weeks, followed by a full tech week (5 weeks total).

The Role

You’ll join a returning professional Director (who knows the process well) to lead the production from auditions through performances. Because of our location and the nature of the program, this is a true two-person team—which means you’ll be doing more than calling cues.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Can confidently manage a rehearsal room full of kids
  • Is comfortable being both organized leader and supportive educator
  • Enjoys working with young performers and serving as a positive role model
  • Is willing to jump in wherever needed—including helping with props, costumes, and general production needs
  • Can run lights and sound during performances (all cues pre-programmed by designers)

You’ll be supported by our in-house Scenic Designer/Technical Director and additional staff during tech, but the rehearsal process is very much yours and the Director’s to lead.

The Reality (and the Reward)

This program is still growing, and that means the Director and Stage Manager truly take the reins. Other than the scheduled rehearsals, we will need daytime support in pulling props and costumes, and helping to get things ready for the show. However, there is obviously a lot of downtime as well. You’ll be making a direct impact on a community where arts education opportunities are limited and deeply valued.
