The Broadway Education Alliance is seeking a dynamic, organized, and imaginative Art Director to guide Camp Broadway’s Shining Stars Program for children 7-9 in bringing their production to life through hands-on design. This role is perfect for an educator or theater artist who loves working with children and enjoys turning big ideas into colorful, tangible creations quickly and efficiently.
Camp Broadway Shining Stars Art Director
(Set, Props & Costume Design)
Pre-Camp Planning: Flexible hours to be determined.
Camp Week: July 13-17, 2026 (staff meeting on 7/12)
Hours: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Location: Pearl Studios, 500 8th Avenue, in Midtown Manhattan
Responsibilities:
· Plan and source art supplies needed to implement the creative vision for the project
· Lead students in creatively designing and constructing set pieces, props, and costume accessories for their final musical theater showcase
· Foster a fun, supportive, and age-appropriate creative environment for kids ages 7–9
· Plan and facilitate daily arts and crafts activities connected to the show’s themes and storytelling
· Ensure materials are used safely and responsibly
· Maintain an organized workspace and manage supplies effectively
· Collaborate closely with the Artistic Director, Director/Choreographer, Music Director, Featured Players, and ASMs to support the overall production vision
· Support rehearsal transitions and assist with preparation for the final performance
· Encourage teamwork, confidence, and creativity among campers
Qualifications:
· 3-5 years’ experience working with children, particularly ages 7–9, in educational, camp, or creative arts settings
· Strong classroom management and group leadership skills
· Creative with a variety of art materials and techniques
· Background in visual arts, theater production, art education, or crafts strongly preferred (art teachers encouraged to apply!)
· Organized, focused, reliable, and fun
· Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
· Enthusiasm for musical theater and arts education
Additional Information:
· All staff are required to successfully complete a background check, CPR certification and Kid Safe Training prior to employment (paid for by BEA)
· This role may offer opportunities to help expand creative programming during other times of the year
· Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced rehearsal environment and supporting young performers throughout the day
Compensation:
Includes fee for pre-production and salary for event week.
