DESCRIPTION
The Sheboygan Theatre Company, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest community theatres, is
seeking directors for its 93rd season (2026-2027). STC’s volunteer productions draw in professional
directors from all over the country to helm the mainstage productions. Rehearsal periods range from six
to eight weeks, Monday through Friday evenings. Directors may be given access to free housing with
local host families or low-cost housing in a hotel. Transportation to and from Wisconsin is not
included, though local transportation from Milwaukee or Chicago on arrival/departure and reasonable
travel within Sheboygan (to and from rehearsal, groceries, errands, etc.) can be arranged. A vehicle is
advisable, if possible, for optimal flexibility and exploring the scenic area. Sheboygan is a beautiful
community of 50,000, located on Lake Michigan about an hour north of Milwaukee. Due to the limited
rehearsal hours, this is a great gig to enjoy some downtime in a beautiful area and get a head start on
other projects.
STC prohibits discrimination in employment against any job applicant because of that person’s race,
color, creed, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression,
marital status, socioeconomic status or any other legally protected status.
Stipend is paid in two parts: halfway through the rehearsal process, and at completion of the
contract. Please do not submit if you are not amenable to the pay range posted. Negotiation
within the pay range is possible. Audition and first rehearsal dates are flexible, within reason, and
the director is under no obligation to stay past opening night. Directors should be comfortable working
with actors and mostly volunteer staff of all experience levels and should have the capacity to be patient
with actors and staff who balance their theatre commitment with full-time jobs and family.
Artists are asked to submit their resumé and brief cover letter to
[email protected] no later than
5pm on Friday, February 13, 2026. Interviews will be conducted in person or via GOOGLE MEETS
on Saturday, March 7th. If selected for an interview, applicants will be contacted by STC to set up their
appointment. A criminal background check is required.
The Sheboygan Theatre Company rehearses and performs at the Leslie W. Johnson Theatre housed
within the Horace Mann Middle School. The 870-seat stadium-style theatre space was built in the
1970’s as STC’s home. The Leslie W. Johnson Theatre features a 58-foot proscenium and a circular
thrust with functional elevators downstage (38 feet at its widest upstage). Visit our facebook page or
