Art House Productions (https://www.arthouseproductions.org/), a non-profit multi-arts organization in Jersey City, NJ, is pleased to announce auditions for their fall mainstage production of RENT - Book, Music and Lyrics by Jonathan Larson.

Actors interested in auditioning for Art House's production of RENT can submit a video audition via this link: https://form.jotform.com/260775745929070
Audition submissions will be accepted now through Friday, April 17th, 2026. These are preliminary auditions for the production; callbacks will be held in-person after the preliminary audition deadline. We will reach out to selected actors after April 20th to begin offering and scheduling callbacks.

Details/Requirements:
- Both equity and non-equity actors can audition for this production.
- AEA Actors will be hired under the Single Engagement Agreement.
- Please submit one video of a song (30-60 seconds) in the style of the show (musical theatre or rock song).
- The production will be in rehearsals from August 25th, 2026 through September 23rd, 2026. Rehearsals will take place Tuesdays-Sundays, with Mondays as off days. (Rehearsal times TBD).
- Performances run from September 24th through October 18th on Thursdays - Saturdays 7:30pm, and Sundays at 2:00pm.
- Actors should live within commuting distance of Art House Productions, 345 Marin Boulevard, Jersey City, NJ 07302.
- Payment: Actors will receive $300-$604 per week

All roles are currently open:

MARK COHEN: Filmmaker and video artist. Knee deep in his own soul-searching, Mark is the typical young artist. He and Roger are roommates in the loft. A bit of a nerd.

ROGER DAVIS: A struggling musician and former drug addict. He is reminiscent of Kurt Cobain. Roommates with Mark in the loft and battles with being HIV-positive.

TOM COLLINS: A computer genius and liberal professor. He is a nurturer with a smooth and relaxed disposition. Used to be a roommate in the loft and is HIV-positive.

BENJAMIN COFFIN III: The landlord of Mark and Roger's apartment building. A former roommate in the loft, Benny traded in his personal morals for power and wealth.

JOANNE JEFFERSON: A public interest lawyer and headstrong lesbian. She is smart and purposeful in all her decisions. Carries on a tumultuous relationship with Maureen.

ANGEL DUMOTT SCHUNARD: The eccentric HIV-positive street drummer. A drag queen with an incredible gift of dance and a magnetic personality. He becomes Tom's lover.

MIMI MARQUEZ: An HIV-positive dancer with drug addictions. Slender and sickly, she conceals it all at her job in the local strip club. She lives in the same building as the loft.

MAUREEN JOHNSON: An unpredictably zany performance artist. Maureen oozes sexuality and used to live in the loft. She has recently dumped Mark for Joanne.

AN ENSEMBLE, played by the above and additional actors. Throughout the show, they portray: police officers, vendors, the support group (Paul, Gordon, others), homeless people, junkies, parents (Mark’s Mother, Joanne’s Mother and Father, Roger’s Mother, Mimi’s Mother), Backup Singers, The Man, Alexi Darling, Mr. Grey, Restaurant Man (Waiter), Pastor, and others. The Ensemble may also all understudy the above-named principal roles.
