SEEKING:

Fannie Lou Hamer (40ish – 50ish, Vocal range: Flexible; strong traditional gospel & soul foundation required) is the sole onstage performer in this one woman play with music. A powerful, Black, singerstoryteller is sought to embody legendary civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer, telling her own story through song, memory, testimony, and direct address. The performer carries the full arc of the piece, guiding the audience through moments of humor, righteous fury, sorrow, joy, and unshakable faith. Has strong vocal stamina and comfort leading call and response moments, at times supported by a live band and occasional audience participation. This portrayal is not an impersonation, but an embodied act of witnessing. Gravitas, warmth, political awareness, and spiritual grounding is essential.

THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG

Rehearsals: 4/6/27 – 5/2/27

First Preview: May 4, 2027

Opening: May 7, 2027

Closing: May 23, 2027

LORT B

SEEKING:

Chris Bean: The show’s director, set designer, costume designer, prop maker, box office manager, press person, voice coach, choreographer, and more. Rigid, uptight, everything really matters to him. Directing and starring in "The Murder at Haversham Manor," is the biggest night of their career. The evening's chaos exposes Chris's vulnerability. Plays "Inspector Carter" and fills in for the role of "Mr. Fitzroy" in The Murder at Haversham Manor

Jonathan Harris: An actor who sees himself as a kind of James Bond but is actually perhaps a bit bland. Embodies suave charm with a strong physical presence but feels the weight of each mistake deeply. Excited and having fun, but not naïve, he cares about the play but not to the same extent as others. Very physical role. Plays “Charles Haversham” in The Murder at Haversham Manor

Robert Grove: Blissfully unaware of those around him, he aspires to greatness with a naivety amidst his ambition but remains cheerfully clueless on stage. Ever-optimistic, he does not feel badly when things go wrong and never learns from his mistakes. He wants to be like Richard Burton as evidenced by his declamatory style. He is, however, not a parody of a bad actor. He's just a bad actor. Plays “Thomas Colleymore” in The Murder at Haversham Manor.

Dennis Tyde: New to the stage, Dennis Had no real desire to be involved in theater, but steps into acting with the hope of finding friendship. He struggles with lines and pronunciation. May be slightly oblivious but understands when they get things wrong, and audience laughter feels like a spotlight on his mistakes, not a cheer for his efforts. Plays the butler, “Perkins,” in The Murder at Haversham Manor.

Sandra Wilkinson: While perhaps vain and possessing ego, she truly wants to be loved. Having always secured lead roles, she has an eye on Hollywood. She's convinced of her unmatched talent within the company and struggles with adaptability when faced with unexpected changes, but she is also smart enough to stay on the good side of someone who can help her. The stakes are high for her. Plays “Florence Colleymoore” in The Murder at Haversham Manor.

Max Bennett: Refreshingly honest and earnest with no prior acting experience, his sincere attempts to follow directions exactly reflect that he doesn’t think anything through, just looks for approval. He is childlike and naïve, his mistakes are fundamental, he has zero connection with any of the other actors, but when he gets a laugh, he breaks the fourth wall. Uniquely charming. Plays “Cecil Haversham” in The Murder at Haversham Manor.

Trevor Watson: Usually all business, Trevor is the lighting and sound operator for the play and unexpectedly finds himself in the spotlight due to unforeseen chaos. Comfortable behind the scenes, he's suddenly required to act and hates to perform. He simply wants to get on with the show. Curmudgeonly, easily distracted and doesn’t care for actors.

Annie Twilloil: The company's stage manager, Annie works tirelessly behind the scenes to solve problems and cannot bear to be on stage. She is unexpectedly cast into the spotlight, starting with a book in hand. Initially terrified by acting, the feeling turns to joy, and then to fury. She starts small but grows and grows.

BOB WALLACE (he/him): Late 20s-Late 30s. A superb singer with a crooning style who moves very well. A major singing star, Bob is the guiding force behind the song and dance team of Wallace and Davis. Baritone. This role requires brief moments of physical intimacy.

PHIL DAVIS (he/him): Late 20s-Late 30s. A song-and-dance comic performer. The fun-loving, go-getting song-and dance partner of the team of Wallace and Davis. An irrepressible clown and operator who is determined to see his friend happy, even if it requires scheming and outright deception. Bari-Tenor. Strong jazz and tap-dancing needed. BETTY HAYNES (she/her): Mid 20s-Late 30s. A femme singer of quiet beauty and charm. The sensible, responsible half of the upcoming song-and-dance team, The Haynes Sisters. With the exception of one line, a non-singing role.

MARTHA WATSON (she/her): Late 40s-Mid 60s. Once a Broadway star, now the general’s housekeeper at the Inn, Martha has a very dry, wry, wisecracking sense of humor. Bighearted but completely unsentimental, she runs the General’s life in spite of his protestations. Clarion Belt Voice.

EZEKIEL FOSTER/ANNOUNCER/SNORING MAN/AS CAST (he/him): Mid 40s-Late 50s. As Ezekiel, the ultimate taciturn New Englander, who helps out at the inn and takes life at a very slow pace.

RHODA/MRS. SNORING MAN/AS CAST (she/her): Mid 20s-Early 30s. As Rhoda, one of Bob and Phil’s chorus girls.
