DESCRIPTION

Geva Theatre, a LORT B regional theatre in the heart of Rochester, NY with an annual operating budget of $8.5 million, seeks an experienced and collaborative Production Manager to join their team.

Reporting to the General Manager and a member of senior staff, this position will oversee and work in tandem with our production departments managing the production needs and resources for the company’s Wilson (LORT B) and Fielding (LORT D) stages. This is an exempt, full-time position.

With the General Manager, the Production Manager will be responsible for planning, implementing, and managing all aspects of the company’s programs, including but not limited to mainstage productions, co-produced productions, scenic builds for other companies, and a variety of other Geva events. They maintain ownership of the advance planning, staffing and execution of all productions and events. They will serve as the primary point of contact for production personnel, production crew, stage management, and all production department heads. With department heads, they are responsible for overseeing the off-site scenic/paints shop, storage warehouses, inventory, and rentals.

RESPONSIBILTIES

· Ensure all production departments have the resources they require to execute the season within scope and lead feasibility analysis of design plans of potential productions.

· Develop and execute staffing plans for production/project execution.

· With department heads, research and coordinate equipment and services related to physical production materials and labor, including not but limited to construction, acquisition, trucking and logistics purchase, rental and transportation of all sets, costumes, wig/makeup, props, lighting, sound and video equipment, and production and technical equipment for all programs.

· With General Manager, develop and maintain production and technical schedules.

· Attend design meetings, production meetings, and staff meetings, coordinate and lead meetings as needed.

· Coordinate with stage management in advance of the production period and throughout the rehearsal and performances.

· With Artistic Director and General Manager, develop season schedule and annual production budgets.

· Work closely across the Artistic and Production departments to prepare and execute all technical and production needs related to artistic personnel and orchestra.

· In collaboration with General Manager, negotiate, manage, prepare, and administer all co-production materials, documentation and agreements.

· Oversee production permitting and certification needs for all programs.

TEAM MANAGEMENT

· Manage and supervise a series of direct and indirect reports, including production department heads (6) and their staff, show crews, stage management (2 resident, multiple visiting), etc.

· Execute and approve employment forms and payroll as necessary.

BUDGET MANAGEMENT & ANALYSIS

· In collaboration with Artistic Director, Executive Director and General Manager, develop season schedule and annual production budgets.

· Manage individual production budgets, expenses, and timelines.

· With department heads, develop and maintain labor projections.

· Obtain competitive pricing for all production elements of expenditure.

· Regularly communicate any and all budget forecast related information to Artistic Director and General Manager.

· Participate in reconciliation and settlement of credit card logs, invoices, and production related payments.

OPERATION MANAGEMENT

· Lead production teams in solving unforeseen circumstances during the production process.

· Provide on-site visibility along with General Manager at rehearsals, meetings, tech, previews, and performances as necessary.

· Recommend technology upgrades based on necessity and feedback from production departments.

· Provide management and oversight of production health and safety requirements; identify and recommend modifications to facilities and processes as necessary.

DESIRED TRAITS IN A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

· 3+ years of production management experience.

· Ability to handle advancing production while implementing current projects and productions.

· Demonstrated experience with complex budgeting and budget management tools.

· Understanding of theater scheduling, working with multiple departments to find best solutions.

· Clear and effective written, verbal, and organizational skills.

· Ability to communicate with and effectively organize large groups of people.

· Ability and desire to show exceptional attention to detail in all aspects of work.

· Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

· Existing knowledge of LORT, AEA, USA, and SDC agreements.

· Experience in non-profit performing arts is a plus.

· Exhibit empathy, kindness, diplomacy, and humor in the workplace.

Salary and benefits commensurate with experience ranging from $70,000-$80,000 per year.
