Theatre Aspen, a nationally recognized professional theatre company entering its fourth decade of artistic excellence, seeks an experienced and highly strategic Production Manager to lead all production operations for its summer season.

This senior leadership role oversees the planning and execution of multiple productions in repertory, ensuring the highest standards of artistic quality, operational rigor, and fiscal responsibility. The Production Manager serves as a key partner to senior leadership, aligning production strategy with organizational goals while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and safety.

Key Responsibilities

Production Leadership & Execution

  • Oversee the full production lifecycle from pre-production through strike across all departments
  • Lead the design and build process in collaboration with directors, designers, and TD
  • Establish and enforce production timelines, ensuring all milestones and deliverables are met

Budgeting & Financial Oversight

  • Manage production budgets in partnership with senior leadership and the Technical Director
  • Monitor expenses, providing forecasting and cost analysis to ensure fiscal discipline
  • Lead bid processes and vendor negotiations with outside shops and rental partners

Staffing & Team Leadership

  • Supervise seasonal production staff and crew
  • Lead onboarding and establish clear expectations, workflows, and communication structures
  • Cultivate a high-performing, respectful, and solutions-oriented production culture

Operations & Scheduling

  • Oversee all scheduling within Theatre Aspen venues, including rehearsals, performances, load-ins/strikes, rentals, and special events
  • Lead regular production meetings, including Two Week Forward planning sessions
  • Coordinate closely with internal departments to ensure seamless execution across organization

Safety & Compliance

  • Serve as the primary safety officer for the production department, maintaining and evolving safety protocols appropriate to an outdoor venue
  • Ensure compliance with all union agreements and industry standards
  • Partner with site and operations staff to maintain a safe, functional, and well-equipped facility

Inventory, Facilities & Strategic Planning

  • Oversee production inventory, rentals, and storage systems, including off-season organization
  • Identify and implement improvements to equipment, systems, and production infrastructure
  • Contribute to long-term planning and capital improvements in collaboration with leadership

On-Site Leadership

  • Maintain a strong physical presence during load-ins, technical rehearsals, and performances
  • Provide real-time problem solving and leadership to ensure smooth execution at all times

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional production management experience in theatre or live performance, ideally in repertory or festival settings
  • Demonstrated success managing complex budgets, schedules, and teams
  • Strong working knowledge of all production disciplines
  • Experience working within union environments
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment, including outdoor production conditions

Dates & Compensation

Contract Dates: Part-time, remote work will begin immediately upon hire. The position transitions to a full-time, in-person engagement in Aspen on or around May 4 through September 18, 2026.

Compensation: $1,100–$1,300 per week, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Housing: Private bedroom in shared housing provided for the duration of the in-person contract.
