SEEKING

Equity actors for roles in Northern Stage Company's 2026-27 Season (See breakdown).

Actors of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, and identities are encouraged to audition.

No roles will be understudied.

PREPARATION

For the Non-Musicals: Please prepare two contrasting 1-minute monologues. For the Musicals: Please prepare one monologue and one 2-minute vocal selection. An accompanist will be present. Please bring sheet music clearly marked and in the correct key. Also, please bring physical copies of your headshot and resume to your audition.

CARTER SMITH - teacher, mid to late 30s, white, male identifying. A former golden boy, but one of
those rare smart and sensitive ones. Now he’s a great teacher: charming, engaging, goofy.

SHELBY HOLCOMB - student, 16, female identifying. Her brain works faster than her mouth, but her mouth works pretty dang fast. People have always underestimated her.

BETH POWELL - student, 17, female identifying. Nervous and ambitious and enthusiastic. Kind of like if Rory Gilmore and Paris Geller had a baby and raised her in the Deep South.

NELL SHAW - student, 16, Black, female identifying. From Atlanta. Grounded and sincere. Genuinely curious about things. A good judge of character, and a quick study.

IVY WATKINS - student, 17, female identifying. fiercely loyal and always well-intentioned. From money. Resist the urge to play her as a mean girl.

RAELYNN NIX - student, 16, female identifying. A cheerleader type who’s always lived her life by other people’s standards. She was paying careful attention and keeping score the whole time.

MASON ADAMS - student, 17, male identifying. He’s never really tried before, and he’s surprised by how good it feels. earnest and affable.

LEE TURNER - student, 16, white, male identifying. a carhartt-wearing good ol’ boy. Deeply insecure and without the tools to deal with it. He’s always been good at getting what he wants.

BAILEY GALLAGHER - counselor, 24, female identifying. Sweet in all the ways Southern women are

KATHERINE - a woman in her early 40s. A high school valedictorian who became involved in a radical anti-Vietnam protest group and was an accomplice to the shooting of CLARE’s father, a police officer. She is turning herself in after many exhausting years as a fugitive on the FBI’s most wanted list.

CLARE - a police officer in her early 40s. Forced to revisit the trauma of her father’s death after Katherine turns herself in and is in the limelight and grapples with Katherine’s impact on her life and her impact on Katherine’s.

JIM - 40s, M. Jack’s assistant. A humble, hard worker who is smarter than people think, especially in his knack for gambling.

FINBAR - late 40s, M. A local businessman who has taken it upon himself to show the eligible newcomer VALERIE around town. A habitual flirt who has become a landlord to much of the town.

VALERIE - 30s, F. A young woman who has just moved from Dublin to town after losing her young
daughter to escape the supernatural manifestations of her grief.
