Pericles, Directed by Peter G. Andersen


Seeking non-AEA actors for all roles for a non-equity Community Touring Production of Pericles, March 24 - May 5, 2025, throughout the Catskill region of NY state. This tour will consist of a 75-90 minute performance of Pericles with a small cohort of actors, as well as facilitating workshops within local schools and community venues.


We strongly encourage performers of all ethnicities, ages, sizes, genders, and abilities to submit. We care about your identity and we are holding consciousness about the stories that we tell by putting specific actors in specific roles. We will have gender fluid casting for this production and we encourage people from across the gender spectrum to audition.


All actors should have a strong sense of musicality, and we are actively seeking musicians who can sing and play any of the following instruments: guitar, mandolin, ukelele, accordion, base, drums. Shakespeare experience is a plus.


Please specifically note on your resume:

  • Shakespeare experience

  • Musical/percussion abilities including:

    • An instrument you play & level - beginner (e.g. basic chords), intermediate (melodies & harmonies), advanced (strong rhythm, improvisation, knowledge of modes/scales/styles)

    • Voice training & voice type/range

  • Experience working with young people (teaching artist, camp counselor, youth instructor, etc)

  • If you have a license and/or a reliable vehicle.

  • Experience performing in a tour.


Please note this is a professional contract. 6 week paid contract ($300 a week) and housing provided (if needed). Full time rehearsals are expected, and the show schedule is full time, often during the day.

Callbacks are in person in NYC scheduled for the weekend of January 11th. You will hear if you have received a callback by the evening of January 3rd.


Entire cast & crew must provide proof of vaccination and consent to a background check per NY State law working with children.


Catskill Mountain Shakespeare seeking Professional Actors for a Community Touring Production of Pericles, directed by Peter Andersen.

  • One classical Monologue 2-3 minutes

  • Please sing a 30 second selection from a modern folk or indie rock song, either accompanying yourself on a stringed instrument (guitar, mandolin, banjo, ukulele) or with an accompaniment track. In terms of style, think: Beirut, Iron and Wine, Sufjan Stevens, Judee Sill, Father John Misty, Anais Mitchell, Leon Bridges, etc etc etc. Please no a capella. If you play one of the following, please also include a 30 second or less video of you playing––trumpet, F horn, trombone, tuba, bass, drumset, guitar, banjo, mandolin.


Character Breakdown:

All roles involve doubling

  • Chorus-All actors will play chorus throughout the play. This is the narrator of the story (originally written as Gower, but we will just call them chorus).

  • Pericles- Prince of tyre; Noble, kind, and adventurous

  • Antiochus – king of Antioch; sly and dangerous

  • Helicanus – lord of Tyre; wise and calm

  • Simonides – king of Pentapolis; Kind and generous, fatherly

  • Cleon – governor of Tarsus; in mourning and a weak king

  • Lysimachus – governor of Mytilene; gentle, noble, and kind

  • Cerimon – a lord of Ephesus, connected to the gods; a holy person

  • Thaliard – a lord of Antioch; an assassin

  • Leonine – servant to Dionyza; an assassin for hire: troubled

  • A Pandar (male owner of a brothel); wormy

  • Boult – The Pandar's servant; ambitious and keen

  • Dionyza – wife to Cleon; cruel and ruthless

  • Thaisa – daughter to Simonides, Pericles' wife; kind and full of life

  • Marina – daughter to Pericles and Thaisa; our other protagonist, spiritual and kind

  • A Bawd (female owner of a brothel); pragmatist and witty

  • Diana; a goddess
