DESCRIPTION

Casting reading of new play POSTCARD FROM VENICE BEACH at the PIT in New York City. The reading will take place on May 17th at 6:30pm.

There will be three rehearsals in New York City before hand on Monday May 4th, Monday May 11th, and Thursday May 14th from 7-10.

This will be a profit share structure from the ticket sales for the reading. Each performer will be paid an equal amount.

To submit please email headshot, resume, and any reels to [email protected] by Tuesday April 21st at 5pm EST. Please list any conflicts you have in the body of the email as well as union status. Optionally you may also submit a cut of the character your interested in from the material linked below. Please read this in your audition video, do not memorize. These are not required.

About the Play - No matter how hot the sand is in Venice Beach, Mamma Sunshine sets up her fruit stand on the boardwalk every day. When a struggling street artist named Fabian crash lands on the promenade and falls in love with Mamma’s daughter Johnnie, watermelon sales aren't the problem anymore. With drugs, desperation, delusion and grief, every character on the street is challenged with one simple question, how far will you go for family?

ROLES

Although the characters are a specific gender we are open to all gender expression submitting for any role.

MAMMA SUNSHINE - 30+, Any Ethnicity, Any Gender
A matriarch who recently lost her husband, old fashioned, strong, stubborn, ball buster, sells fruit on the street since her husbands passing.

DATA - 18+, Any Ethnicity, Any Gender
Mamma’s oldest son, taking on the “man of the house” role, helpful, finding his place in the world, very intelligent, sweet and gentle.

NEWT - 18+ to play 8 years old, Any Ethnicity, Any Gender.
Mamma’s youngest child, energetic, curious

HUNK - 18+, Any Ethnicity, Any Gender
Possum’s younger brother, a gentle lumbering giant, quiet and reserved but not unexpressive, a follower.

FABIAN - 18+, Any Ethnicity, Any Gender (ALL GENDER EXPRESSIONS ESPECIALLY ENCOURAGED FOR THIS ROLE)
An artist, see’s the world through the lens of the cosmos, flying above ground, has the energy of a creature, often high on a mixture of drugs. This character does speak about violence, self harm, drugs, alcohol, and intimacy.

JOHNNIE (CAST) - Mamma’s middle daughter, wants to be loved so badly, struggling with the lost of her father, loves to feel, looking to see the world.

POSSUM (CAST) - A New Yorker wise guy, New York accent, street smart, giving, has a short fuse, thinks he knows the answer to everything, lives in the tent with Hunk and sells souvenirs.
