DESCRIPTION

The New American Ensemble Summer Intensive is our inaugural five-week conservatory program designed for young artists at a pivotal moment in their development. Rooted in European ensemble traditions and the training lineage of LAMDA, the program offers students a rare opportunity to engage in a rigorous, process-driven actor training within a true ensemble structure.

Designed for rising high school seniors and currently enrolled college students, our intensive offers something rare: the chance to train and perform as a working member of a professional New York theater company, from the very first day.

Students spend their mornings in the conservatory and their evenings in rehearsal. With 75 total hours of rigorous classroom training and 125 hours of professional rehearsal experience, participants will train across classical text, pure voice, pure movement, scene study, mask, clown, and stage combat, led by a core faculty connected to LAMDA, the Actors Studio, LaMaMa, Yale School of Drama, and more. In addition to core faculty, a roster of distinguished guest practitioners will provide masterclass workshops, pushing the edges of physical, vocal, and psychological work.

The program culminates in four public performances. By the time the curtain falls, each student will have earned a professional theater credit on a New York City stage, built relationships with faculty whose names open doors, and developed the artistic identity and technical vocabulary to walk into any professional or conservatory environment ready to work. The curriculum is demanding by design. NAE's ensemble methodology — process-driven, collaborative, and deeply invested in the individual artist — is applied in full. Students don't just learn technique. They develop a personal artistic philosophy, a vocabulary for their instrument, and the collaborative fluency to thrive in any professional or academic environment they enter next.
