Seeking sensational triple threat performers ages 18 and up for Mountain Theatre Company’s 88th season. Must have incredible musical theatre-pop/rock voices, strong dance skills, great comedic instincts, and the ability to interact well with an audience.

DANCIN’ IN THE STREET
Dancin’ in the Street is a world-premiere jukebox musical set on a vibrant neighborhood block where interconnected love stories, friendships, and community unfold through the music of Motown, ’70s folk, soul, and disco. This is a story-driven, ensemble-forward world-premiere production being developed at Mountain Theatre Company by an award winning creative team from Broadway and Las Vegas.

Dancin’ in the Street is intentionally envisioned as a diverse, celebratory community shaped by collaboration, cultural exchange, and shared rhythm. Mountain Theatre Company and the creative team is deeply committed to inclusive casting and warmly encourages Latinx, Black, Asian, and other historically underrepresented artists to participate in the ongoing development of these roles.

With dazzling costumes, cinematic visuals, and a world-class professional cast, this production is pure, exhilarating entertainment for the whole family.

Track 1: Billy (Dancin’ in the Street) / The Showman (Showstoppers)
Lead | Male Singer-Dancer | Hispanic/Latinx/Afro-Caribbean | 25–35
Vocal Range: Tenor with strong mix/belt.
Must be a strong dancer with solid partnering skills and high stamina. A magnetic storyteller with natural charisma and commanding presence. True triple threat with advanced dance skills (tap a plus), rhythmic authority, and effortless audience connection.

BILLY (Dancin’ in the Street)
Billy is the unofficial mayor of the block. He believes in music, community, and the idea that if you keep the groove going, everything will work itself out. He narrates the story not as an outsider, but as someone deeply invested in every life on the street. Billy’s confidence comes easily—but it’s also a shield. He avoids overthinking by trusting the rhythm of things. Billy begins the show convinced that joy is something you protect by keeping things light. Over the course of the story, he learns that joy doesn’t disappear when life changes—it deepens. When he and Christie discover they’re expecting a child, Billy steps into a more grounded leadership, understanding that the street isn’t just a party—it’s a family he’s responsible for nurturing.

Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano with belt.
Must be a strong dancer with solid partnering proficiency. A fearless, dynamic performer with emotional depth and sharp comedic instincts. Strong jazz-based dancer with commanding stage presence.

CHRISTIE (Dancin’ in the Street)
Cristie is energy incarnate. She organizes, motivates, decorates, and dances because motion keeps fear at bay. She loves Billy deeply, but she fears that adulthood—especially motherhood—means the end of spontaneity, sensuality, and joy. Where Billy trusts the music, Christie needs to control it. Christie begins anxious that pregnancy signals the end of her identity. Through the block party and her emotional Act I finale, she confronts the fear that this might be her “last dance.” By the end, she realizes that joy isn’t something she’s losing—it’s something she’s carrying forward. Motherhood doesn’t replace who she is; it expands it.

Must be a strong dancer with confident physicality and partnering skills. A commanding performer with vocal authority and emotional weight.

BRENDA (Dancin’ in the Street)
Brenda is strong, proud, and deeply loyal. She has built a life with Eddie over years of shared history and shared struggle. But strength has made her guarded. When Eddie’s behavior changes, Brenda’s fear of being taken for granted turns into suspicion. She would rather assume betrayal than risk being blindsided by disappointment. Brenda begins the show bracing for heartbreak. Her jealousy isn’t insecurity—it’s self-preservation. Over the course of the story, she is forced to confront how fear can distort love. Eddie’s vow renewal reveals that she hasn’t been forgotten or replaced—she’s been cherished all along. Brenda ends the show choosing trust again, but this time with clarity, not naivety.

Vocal Range: Tenor
Must be a strong mover with solid partnering skills. Must play guitar comfortably onstage. A deeply sincere, emotionally open performer with a folk/rock storytelling voice.

JACK (Dancin’ in the Street)
Jack is thoughtful, gentle, and deeply sincere. He feels things before he says them and writes songs instead of speeches. He has loved Diane quietly for years, believing patience is respect. But patience has also become a hiding place. Jack begins afraid that wanting more will ruin what he already has. Over the course of the story, he learns that love requires risk. His journey is a slow burn—from silent longing to emotional courage. By the time Diane proposes, Jack has already done the hardest thing: he made himself emotionally visible.

Must be an exceptional dancer with expert proficiency in partnering and adagio work; lifts required. Strong jazz, disco, and contemporary technique with high stamina. Requires strong ensemble singers with excellent harmony skills.

THE BEAT (Showstoppers!)

The pulse of the story. Elite dancer with stamina, clarity, and attack. Strong sense of rhythm and ensemble awareness. Reference Roles: Leading Player – Pippin / Tap Brother – After Midnight / Bernardo – West Side Story
