WAITRESS

Katie Banville - Choreographer

Tamara Paige - Musical Director/Conductor

First Non-Equity: 5/4

First Equity Rehearsal: 5/20

Open: 6/5

Close: 6/22

SEEKING:

JENNA – Female, 20s-30s. Any ethnicity. A woman stuck in her life as an unhappily married waitress in a small town. Finds some happiness and expression through her meticulous baking of pies and her friendships with her coworkers, Dawn and Becky. Lives her live paycheck-to-paycheck, day by day, and wants nothing more than to get away and start fresh, unbeknownst to her destructive husband, Earl. Has a fantastic pop/rock voice with great range.

DAWN – Female, 20s, any ethnicity. Youngest of the waitresses. Thick glasses, hair parted 14 centimeters to the left — eccentric is the nice way to say she’s slightly unusual, and not so slightly OCD. She sets the tables, painstakingly ensuring each salt and pepper shaker is equidistant from the napkin holder. Has an excellent pop/rock/folk voice.

BECKY – Female, early 40s-early 50s, Any ethnicity. The oldest of the three waitresses. Irreverent, irascible, been there, made it back, and somehow kept her forward and sometimes wicked sense of humor with excellent comedic timing. Has a soulful pop voice with an excellent pop belt.

DR. POMATTER – Male, 30s-early 40s, any ethnicity. Handsome, endearing, and neurotic. Has a warm, if clumsy, matter. Jenna’s gynecologist with whom an unexpected extramarital affair is born. Has a quirky sense of humor and a big heart, despite the fact that he’s contributing to the affair. Has impeccable comedic timing and moves well. Has a very strong pop/rock tenor that can navigate the musical style of Sara Bareilles with ease.

EARL – Male, 20s-30s. Caucasian. Jenna’s husband. Peaked in high school, handsome in a gruff way, but that face is clouded with broken dreams, drowned with cheap beer. Just enough narcissism mixed with stupidity, to be a potent Molotov cocktail that can explode into unexpected anger one second and then turn into a sobbing mess the next. Actors auditioning for EARL would need to come prepared with a song in the vein of Elton John or a similar contemporary singer/songwriter. Guitar playing a plus.

OGIE - Male, 30s, any ethnicity. Strange, yet oddly lovable. Becomes slightly obsessed with Dawn (in a hilarious yet endearing way) after she goes on a 5-minute date with him. Quirky, incredibly persistent, and odd, yet kind. Has excellent comedic timing. Has an excellent pop/rock tenor/baritenor sound.

JOE - Male, 60s-70s, any ethnicity. The owner of the diner where Jenna, Dawn, Becky, and Cal work. A seemingly old, curmudgeonly man who has a soft spot for Jenna (and her pie), warm at heart. A sarcastically funny and no-nonsense guy with a keen ability to read people. Very funny.

CAL - Male, any ethnicity, 40s. CAL: A chef at the diner. A “Salt of the Earth” guy’s guy surrounded by gals. Brash, impatient, unsentimental, but somehow charming. Has a strong pop/rock voice with great comedic chops. Has a strong contemporary baritone singing voice in the style of Sara Bareilles and has excellent comedic timing.

LULU – Young Girl, to play 4-5 years old. Daughter of Jenna and Earl. A sweet, carefree child who appears in the last scene of the show. Should be confident and be able to engage in a small amount of dialogue and movement on stage. Must be shorter than 127cm.

MALE ENSEMBLE - Males, any ethnicity, ranging from Mid-Late 20s to late 40s. Has excellent pop/rock voices in the style of Sara Bareilles. Has excellent comedic timing and be able to play a range of characters comprising the community in which the story takes place. Strong movers/dancers.

3 MALE ENSEMBLE

FEMALE ENSEMBLE - Females, any ethnicity, ranging from mid 20s to late 30s. Has excellent pop/rock voices in the style of Sara Bareilles. Has excellent comedic timing and be able to play a range of characters comprising the community in which the story takes place. Strong movers/dancers.

4 FEMALE ENSEMBLE

ANASTASIA

Larry Raben - Director

Bill Burns - Choreographer

Randi Rudolph - Musical Director/Conductor

First Non-Equity: 6/8

First Equity Rehearsal: 6/24

Open: 7/10

Close: 7/27

SEEKING:

Anya/Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanov - 26, Range: G3-F5, Belt to D5. Disneyesque Soprano or Mezzo. Some movement. Anya is brave, fiery, witty, and above all determined. With no memory of her life before age 17 and having lived through the horrors of the Russian Revolution, Anya jumps at the sound of gunshots and is distrustful of strangers, but there is steel hiding just beneath the surface. Anya is strong-willed and compassionate. Her mantra, “Home, love, family” is her goal. All she knows is her family is in Paris and she will find them however she can.

Dmitry Sudayev - 28 Range: A2-G4. “Baritenor”. Some Movement. Dmitry is a scoundrel with a heart of gold. A street rat who grew into a conman, Dima does all he does to get out of poverty and is not above lying, cheating, and stealing to do so – that is until he meets Anya. What starts as just another scheme (albeit much bigger than anything he’s tried to pull off before) turns into the adventure of a lifetime that requires Dimitry to look inward and figure out how to put the one he loves before himself.

Vladimir “Vlad” Popov - Mid 40s-Early 50s (No age really specified). Range: A2-F4. Comic Baritone.

Strong mover. Vlad is Dmitry’s partner in crime (literally) and surrogate father. Before the revolution he scammed his way through society pretending to be a count. Vlad is dramatic, crafty, and a big softie at heart. While he, like Dmitry, is not above lying, cheating, and stealing, he cares greatly for his loved ones and is generally affable, though he can be calculating when he needs to be.

Deputy Commissioner Gleb Vaganov - Mid 30s. Range: A2-Gb4. Baritone with a strong upper extension. Gleb is the villain of the show, though not a bad person. He fully believes in the Communist ideals he follows. Loyal, honest, and hardworking, Gleb almost has the potential to be a hero (he’s very much the hero of his own story). A deeply conflicted person, Gleb’s infatuation (and borderline obsession) with Anya leads to his battle with the idea of doing one’s duty vs. doing what is right.

Countess Lily Malevsky-Malevitch - THIS ROLE IS CAST. The confidante and lady-in-waiting to the Dowager Empress. She’s compassionate, respectful, and good at her job, but also delightful and worldly when she’s not with the Dowager.

Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna Romanov – 80. Range: F3-Bb4. A regal Mezzo. The Dowager Empress has lost everything she once held dear and must now put up with imposter upon imposter never allowing her to grieve in peace. She is icy, proud, and regal (not to mention intimidating) to all but her family. Though, she does have a very shrap wit. She is especially warm with Anastasia both when a child and after it’s revealed that Anya really is the princess. She commands authority and attention the minute she enters a room.

Young Anastasia/Alexei - (Doubles in Ensemble as well), age 5 for Young Anastasia, age 13 for Alexei. Range: C4-C5, a sweet child soprano. Young Anastasia is the willful, brave, proud, and precocious youngest daughter of the Tsar. She has a special bond with her grandmother (whom she calls Nana). Alexei was the Tsarevich (Heir to the throne) and only boy of the Romanov siblings. He suffered from debilitating hemophilia that often left him bedridden. Anya mentions that he was her best friend.

Ensemble - The Ensemble has a TON to do in this show and plays a vast array of featured characters. All of the Ensemble plays Townsfolk, Royal Servants, Bolshevik Officers and Soldiers, Parisians, Reporters, and Aristocrats, as well as the following:

Olga, Tatiana, Mariya (the other Romanov Sisters) - Paulina, Dunya, Marfa (three prostitutes who audition for the Fake-Anastasia scheme)/Odette and Swans (Dancers in the ballet - These tracks require dancing en pointe. Olga track also dances Odette and requires strong ballet ability. Teen Anya

Commissioner Gorlinsky/Count Leopold/Drunkard 4, Understudies Vlad

Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna/Female Reporter/Countess Gregory, Understudies Lily, but sings high soprano in Ensemble numbers

Tsar Nicholas II Romanov/Count Ipolitov/Drunkard 3, Understudies Gleb

Siegfriend (in Swan Lake sequence)/ Drunkard 1/Sergei the Doorman, Understudies Dmitry

Von Rothbart (in Swan Lake sequence)/Drunkard 2/Sergei the Doorman

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF

Steven Glaudini - Producing Artistic Director/Director

Elan McMahan - Musical Director/Conductor

SEEKING:

Tevye, the Dairyman - Male. Age: 45 to 60. Vocal range top: F5 - Vocal range bottom: Ab2 Tevye is a likeable, hard-working, pious man who sees the positive side of life. Strong patriarch but gentle father of 5 daughters he has raised according to the Scriptures. He is humorous and relaxed, but when pushed, can show stubbornness and rage. Carries the show and has a good connection with the audience.

Golde, Tevye’s wife - Female. Age: 40 to 50 Vocal range top: Eb5 - Vocal range bottom: A3. Golde is the real strength behind Tevye, the one who keeps the household going. She is very concerned that her daughters make good matches and have easier lives than she & Tevye have had. Good comic timing for very funny lines.

Yente, the Matchmaker - Female, Age: 50 to 60. Vocal range top: F5 - bottom: F3. Yente is the middle-aged widow who matches up the young people of the village in the hopes that they will marry. She is the village busybody and knows all the news of the town. She is the comedienne of the show.

Lazar Wolf, the Butcher – Male, Age: 40 to 50. Vocal range top: F#4 - bottom: C3. Lazar is the town’s wealthiest citizen & is the same age, if not older, than Tevye. He wants to marry, by traditional parental agreement, Tevye’s daughter, Tzeitel. Promising to give her a good & secure life. A feisty, comic role.

Tzeitel, the Eldest Daughter – Female, Age: 20 to 30. Vocal range top: D5 - bottom: B3. Tzeitel is the first daughter to marry and the first to challenge the traditions. She has a desperate crying scene with Tevye when faced with marrying Lazar Wolf instead of Motel, who she really loves.

Motel, the Tailor – Male, 20 to 30. Vocal range top: F#4 - bottom: E3. Motel is a rather meek & poor tailor who seeks the hand of Tzeitel and comes into his own in the process! This is a terrific character role needing a sensitive, nervous but loveable portrayal.

Hodel, the 2nd Eldest Daughter - Female, Age: 20 – 30. Vocal range top: E5 – B3. Hodel becomes intrigued with the radical, young student, Perchik. She eventually leaves Anatevka to join him in Siberia where he is imprisoned for his reform activities.

Perchik, the Student – Male, Age: 20 to 30. Vocal range top: E4 - bottom: B2. Perchik is a visitor to Anatevka, and therefore, an outsider. He brings with him radical new ideas that challenge the traditions. He falls for Hodel. Shows intensity and an unfailing commitment to his beliefs.

Chava, the 3rd eldest Daughter - Female, Age: 20 to 28. Vocal range top: D5 - bottom: B3. Chava is the scholarly daughter who loves to read. She falls in love and runs off with Fyedka, a Russian soldier, and breaks her father’s heart. This role performs an emotional dance.

Fyedka, a Russian soldier – Male, 20 to 30. Fyedka, a strong young soldier, sees past his military obligations and falls in love with Chava. He challenges Tevye’s imposed silence towards him. Fyedka has a solo in “To Life” and dances a Russian dance with his fellow soldiers.

Shprintze & Bielke – Female, Ages: 8 to 13. Vocal range top: D - bottom: B3. The two youngest daughters of Tevye & Golde. They take lessons at home from Perchik & appear in several scenes with some speaking lines.

The Constable - Male, Age: 35 to 45. This Russian military official stationed near Anatevka, knows the villagers well, and even likes some of them, particularly Tevye. But these superficial relationships don’t prevent him from carrying out violence against the people. This is a non-singing role.

The Rabbi – THIS ROLE IS CAST. Anatevka’s Jewish spiritual leader.

Mendel, the Rabbi’s son – Male, 20 to 30. The Rabbi’s son. He is uncertain of the presence of Perchik in the village.

Mordcha, the Innkeeper – Male, Age: 40 to 70. Runs the bar in town and is a friend of Tevye.

Avram, the Bookseller - Male, Age: 40 to 60. Vocal range top: Eb4 - bottom: D3. Runs the bookshop in town and keeps the town advised of all of the news in the area.

Grandma Tzeitel – Female, Age: 60 to 75. Vocal range top: D5 - bottom: C#4. Grandma Tzeitel is a ghost figure who appears in the Dream Scene and has a wonderful solo, endorsing the marriage of Tzeitel to Motel. It is a very entertaining & memorable role. Doubles as a villager.

Fruma-Sarah - Female, Age: 35 to 45. Vocal range top: Eb5 - bottom: C4. Fruma-Sarah is also a ghost figure who appears in the Dream Scene. She portrays Lazar Wolf’s departed wife & becomes enraged that her husband plans on marrying Tzeitel. It is a show-stopping scene requiring a strong singer to carry a challenging solo. First Non-Equity: 8/10

First Equity Rehearsal: 8/26

Open: 9/11

Close: 9/28

SEEKING:

Moses - Playful, but with a soulful core. Ages throughout the show. He begins the show as a devil-may-care young man, a bit of a clown and playboy, secure in his privileged identity as a prince of Egypt. But after his devastating discovery that he was born a slave, he grows into the strong and compassionate leader of the Hebrew people. A high tenor (sings up to Bb) with a thrilling voice and large range. Male, Age Range 20 to 40. Vocal range top: A4 - bottom: Bb2

Ramses - A prince of Egypt, heir to the throne, who ages throughout the show. He loves his brother Moses, but is also quite competitive with him, since Moses’s winning personality continually puts him in the shade. His father expects a great deal from him as the future Pharaoh, and Ramses is wracked by self-doubt. Through trials of great pain over the course of the show, he ultimately becomes a great leader of the Egyptians. A strong tenor (sings up to G#), but with a well-developed lower range. Male, Age Range: 20 to 40. Vocal range top: A4 - bottom: Bb2

Yocheved - Moses’s Hebrew mother. She sets her son afloat in a basket on the Nile in order to save him from the Egyptian soldiers. Rich alto voice, sings in Hebrew and English. Female, Age: 20 to 50.

Young Miriam - Moses’s Hebrew sister. Good singing voice. Female, 8 – 11. Vocal range top: C5 - bottom: G3

Tuya - Regal, wise, deeply loving. She always wanted another son after Ramses was born, and believes Moses was a gift from the gods. Over the course of the show, she changes from being a vibrant, clever, and even playful woman to a broken creature devastated by the loss of her adopted son. Rich alto voice. Age: 35 to 55. Vocal range top: E5 - bottom: G3

Seti - The Pharaoh of Egypt. Commanding, carries himself with great dignity and authority. As a young man, he brought Egypt back from the brink of civil war. He is a great general and still leads his army into battle. He loves his sons deeply, but he loves Egypt more and everything he does is to protect and preserve his country. A low baritone/bass. Male, Age: 50 to 69. Vocal range top: E4 - bottom: B2

Hotep - The High Priest of Egypt. Though pompous and self-important, he is deeply committed to the ancient gods of Egypt and above all fears the heresy of the one god which brought down the previous dynasty. His support is crucial to the well-being of the 18th Dynasty. He despises Moses for his lack of reverence and seeks to preserve the Egyptian hierarchy at all costs. Strong baritone. Male, Age: 50 to 65. Vocal range top: F4- bottom: G#2

Tzipporah - A Midian princess, fiery and rebellious, who ages throughout the show. She is full of spirit and strength and wants nothing more than for her people to be free. Deeply committed to her family, and eventually to her love for Moses. Has a thrilling high belt, but also a well-developed and beautiful mix; also dances well. Female, Age: 20 to 39. Vocal range top: E5 - bottom: Ab3

Miriam - Moses’s Hebrew sister. Devout, unswerving, simple-hearted, optimistic. A prophetess. She believes in God and in Moses as the Deliverer and never wavers in her faith in both. Strong rich belt. Female, Age: 25 to 45. Vocal range top: Eb5 - bottom: G3

Aaron - Moses’s Hebrew brother. Intellectual, sardonic, skeptical, funny. Aaron has reached an accommodation with his life as a slave; he makes a joke of everything to diminish the pain. Aaron is the last Hebrew to believe in Moses; when Moses returns to Egypt and confronts Ramses, asking him to let his people go, Aaron’s skepticism is borne out when the Hebrews’ labor is doubled. But when Aaron is finally won over, he becomes Moses’ most loyal follower. Tenor or high baritone. Male, Age: 22 to 40. Vocal range top: G4- bottom: B2

Nefertari - Ramses’s wife and his Queen of Egypt. Imperious and haughty. Scion of an ancient royal family, she is keenly aware of her position and her importance to the dynasty. She is supremely self-confident and looks down upon Ramses as a member of an upstart family. But at the end, her heart is broken by the death of her son and she reveals her humanity and love for Ramses. Strong rich belt, high alto. Female, Age Range: 25 to 40. Vocal range top: D5 - bottom: B3

Jethro - The High Priest of Midian and Tzipporah’s father. A powerful, wise presence, exuding a joy of life and a deep empathy for others. Full of love and buoyancy, with a deep spiritual center.
