The Art Farm at Serenbe and Erin Stegeman are proud to present the world premiere of a new parody thriller, M.A.C.B.E.T.H.
From the delightfully unhinged creator behind “Shame of Thrones” and “Once Upon A Time: The Rock Opera” comes the crossover nobody asked for but everyone needs: Shakespeare's bloodiest tragedy retold as an episode of “Friends”. Could it BE any more entertaining?
Written and Directed by Erin Stegeman, Produced by Lena deLoache
All roles are open to all ethnicities.
Logline: Six friends navigate ambition, betrayal, and overpriced coffee in their forties as trauma and technology reshape their relationships.
CONTENT WARNING: Mature themes, sexual situations, language, smoking, blood and violence, and physical combat for some characters. See roles for more specifics. All actors must be able to move and learn stage combat. A stunt coordinator will be present at rehearsals.
ROLES:
CHANDLER/MACBETH Male, 40s, Lead Once the group's sarcastic comic relief, Chandler has transformed into a man consumed by ambition and guilt. Married to his devout and encouraging wife, Monica, he’s become a successful advertising executive by clawing his way to the top through increasingly questionable decisions. He's haunted by the moral compromises he's made. Need rapid verbal delivery, self-deprecating wit, and ability to show vulnerability beneath the jokes. Strong sitcom, physical humor, and dramatic skills are essential. This role requires several kissing scenes and simulated sex, no nudity. Some light stunt work.
MONICA/LADY MACBETH Female, 40s, Lead Obsessively neat, competitive, half-Jewish, and type-A personality. Younger sister to Ross and married to Chandler. Professional chef with a nurturing side masked by control issues that are hardening into something darker. Need someone who can balance neurotic energy with genuine warmth and deliver rapid-fire dialogue. Strong physical comedy and dramatic skills required. Must convey both the ultimate put together hostess and the woman slowly unraveling beneath the surface. This role requires several kissing scenes and simulated sex, no nudity. Actor takes a drag of a cigarette on stage. Some light stunt work.
RACHEL/BANQUO Female, 40s, Supporting Lead An independent and ambitious rising Femme Boss struggling within the constraints of traditional marriage to her on again off again husband, Ross. Warm, sometimes self-absorbed, but deeply caring. Must have strong comedic timing and ability to portray vulnerability. This role includes a passionate kissing scene and some light stunt work.
PHOEBE/WITCHES Female, 40s, Supporting Lead Quirky, eccentric singer-songwriter and astrology girlie. Her spacey exterior hides surprising wisdom and (sometimes scary) street smarts. Must be able to *somewhat* play guitar, sing comedically, and bring both oddball humor and unexpected emotional depth. This role interacts with the audience so strong improv skills are a plus. This role includes some light stunt work.
JOEY/MACDUFF Male, 40s, Supporting Lead Struggling actor, lovable himbo with a huge heart. Italian-American, food-obsessed womanizer who's surprisingly innocent and loyal to friends. Requires natural comedic instincts, ability to play naive in an endearing and authentic way, and genuine charm. Physical comedy important. This role includes some light stunt work.
ROSS/MALCOLM Male, 40s, Supporting Lead Paleontologist, half-Jewish, Monica's older brother, and the “nice guy” husband to Rachel. Intelligent, nerdy, neurotic, and romantically unlucky. Prone to jealousy and saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. Must handle both pompous intellectual humor and physical comedy. Ability to be both endearing and frustrating. This role includes passionate kissing scene and some light stunt work.
FEMALE and MALE SWINGS Male and Female, 25-50 Seeking two strong comedic actors and/or character actors who can play a multitude of characters (ie Janice, Gunther, Duncan, Gen Z baristas). Each swing will additionally understudy the lead roles.
Please submit headshots/resume, actor reels, along with a 30-60 second clip of you impersonating any of the above characters to by February 6th. Please include any of their iconic phrases and movement or style of humor. Improvising with a reader is welcome. We are happy to consider performers with representation, however, the Art Farm can only correspond with performers directly.
