Discovering Broadway has launched an annual commissioning initiative by commissioning a new, original musical from Zack Zadek (Deathless). The program will see the Indiana-based pre-Broadway incubator providing resources, space, and institutional backing to help develop new work.

The company will launch a second annual commissioning initiative, to be titled the Sabello Musical Commission, in 2027.

The first commission will also include a workshop held in Indiana for Zadek's currently untitled new work to take place this summer, culminating in a public concert showcasing the project's score. The work is being developed with director Joel Kirk (Theater Adult With Gianmarco Soresi).

"I’m deeply honored to be the first recipient of this commission," says Zadek in a statement. "The financial support to write something from scratch, along with the resources to fully develop and iterate on a new piece is incredibly meaningful. I can’t wait to dive in."

Those looking to submit work to Discovering Broadway's commissioning initiatives can email an artist bio, one-paragraph plot synopsis, and three demos to [email protected]. Submissions for the inaugural initiative will be accepted February 22-March 1. Submission dates for the Sabello Musical Commission are to be announced.
