The League of Resident Theatres (“LORT”) and Stephanie Grassi, Esq. P.C. seek applicants interested in theatre management and labor relations for the part-time, temporary position of LORT Bargaining Fellow. The LORT Bargaining Fellow will work directly with LORT Counsel Stephanie Grassi, LORT Manager of Member Services and Labor Relations Matt Schultz, and LORT Managers to provide support for LORT’s collective bargaining negotiations with Actors’ Equity Association (AEA), the theatrical union representing professional actors and stage managers. The LORT Bargaining Fellow will also have opportunities to observe a variety of labor, contract, and employment matters while helping LORT prepare for negotiations.

LORT is the largest professional theatre association of its kind in the United States, with 82 member Theatres located in every major market in the U.S., including 30 states and the District of Columbia. LORT administers the primary national not-for-profit collective bargaining agreements with AEA, the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC), and United Scenic Artists (USA).

LORT Bargaining Fellow duties include:
• Researching and analyzing bargaining history, production practices, and survey data
• Attending in-person the Fall 2026 LORT Meeting in Cincinnati (October 21-23) and LORT-AEA collective bargaining negotiations (anticipated to occur January/February 2027)
• Drafting and organizing materials to be used in preparation for and during bargaining
• Taking notes and providing logistical support during bargaining (e.g., sourcing supplies, printing/copying, arranging meals)
• Attending and taking notes for conference calls and virtual meetings as needed
• Other duties as assigned to support LORT’s bargaining preparation
The LORT Bargaining Fellow must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to prioritize and manage their workflow and should have writing, proofreading, and oral communication skills commensurate with a graduate student or a senior in a four-year bachelor’s program.

Employment terms for the LORT Bargaining Fellow include:
• Part-time, non-exempt position compensated between $18.00 and $22.00 per hour, commensurate with experience
• Begin work May/June 2026 and conclude February/March 2027 (specific start and end dates to be negotiated)
• Generally, 10 to 12 hours of work per week (flexible schedule); however, additional hours will be required when attending the Fall 2026 LORT Meeting in person and full-time, in-person attendance will be required during the weeks of LORT-AEA collective bargaining negotiations
• Travel costs associated with attending in-person meetings will be covered/reimbursed
• Must be able to work remotely within New York State or another state as negotiated
• Matriculated students may negotiate for terms to satisfy course credit or other curriculum requirements
