QUESTIONS

Thank you for your interest in auditioning!
Joseph
Male identifying. Tenor.
Joseph is a natural leader with confidence, charisma, and quiet strength. In this production, he stands out immediately from the saloon crowd—bold, magnetic, and impossible to ignore. While his brothers see arrogance and ambition, Joseph possesses an unshakable belief in his dreams and his destiny.
This role requires a powerful vocalist and commanding performer who can carry the emotional heart of the story while holding the stage through several major musical moments. Strong acting ability and stage presence are essential.
Ability to play guitar, banjo, or other folk instruments is a strong plus and may be incorporated into the production, but is not required.
Narrator / Bartender
Female identifying. Strong mezzo or soprano.
The charismatic storyteller who guides the audience through Joseph’s journey. In this production, the Narrator is the bartender of the saloon—sharp-witted, commanding, and no stranger to running the room. She’s likely broken up a bar fight or two (or thirty) and knows exactly how to keep a crowd entertained.
This performer must have excellent vocal control, strong storytelling ability, and confident stage presence, serving as the driving force that moves the story forward while interacting with the troupe of saloon patrons who bring the tale to life.
Ability to play guitar, banjo, or other folk instruments is a strong plus and may be incorporated into the production, but is not required.
Pharaoh
Male or Female identifying.
An outrageous and glamorous Las Vegas-style headliner imagined through the saloon’s storytelling lens. In this production, Pharaoh may embody the swagger and charisma of a legendary Western performer—think less Elvis and more Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, or a larger-than-life rhinestone cowboy/cowgirl icon.
Big personality, strong comedic instincts, and commanding stage presence. This performer should be able to bring bold showmanship and musical flair to the role.
May double as Potiphar’s Wife and Saloon Madame.
Jacob / Potiphar / Ensemble
Male identifying. Baritone.
A bold character role within the storytelling troupe. Jacob appears as Joseph’s proud and devoted father, while Potiphar transforms into a wealthy, larger-than-life Western showman—think Buffalo Bill meets rhinestone cowboy royalty.
This performer should have strong character instincts, humor, and commanding presence, able to shift between warmth and flamboyant theatricality as the troupe moves through the story.
Potiphar’s Wife / The Saloon Madame / Ensemble
Female identifying.
A glamorous and commanding saloon madame within the storytelling world. Bold, seductive, theatrical, and larger-than-life, she knows how to work a room and isn’t afraid to stir up trouble.
This role requires strong comedic instincts, confidence, and commanding stage presence. She embodies the dramatic flair of a Western saloon entertainer—part temptress, part showstopper, and always in control.
May double as Pharaoh.
Saloon Ensemble / Brothers
These roles may be played by performers of All Genders.
The Saloon Ensemble and Joseph’s Brothers form a lively, high-energy troupe of cowboys, outlaws, and saloon patrons who bring Joseph’s story to life. We are seeking exceptional singers, strong dancers, dynamic movers, and versatile actors with bold stage presence and strong harmony skills.
Ensemble members portray multiple characters throughout the show, including cowboys, prisoners, Egyptians, Ishmaelites, Vegas show performers, and band members. This is a physically active, highly theatrical ensemble that shifts fluidly between characters and the saloon storytelling world.
Performers who play instruments (guitar, banjo, fiddle, harmonica, etc.) are strongly encouraged to audition.
Featured vocal solos will include: “Those Canaan Days”, “One More Angel in Heaven”, “The Bakers Song”, “The Butlers Song”, “Benjamin’s Calypso”.
Featured female dancer — Seeking a very strong female dancer for a featured Parisian cabaret–style tango during “Those Canaan Days”. This performer represents temptation and indulgence (wine, wealth, and excess) and leads a dramatic tango sequence with the ensemble acting as shifting partners. Strong dance technique and partnering ability required.
